The fact we had ALL these people wander off to pastures new at once wasnt necessarily a bad thing (it was Reed’s cronies in the main), but the fact we haven’t got a bloody clue what to do now is the worry.
I am happy to give Ralph the December fixtures to turn it around. If he left however and in the unlikely event we could lure him then Chris wilder is not a bad shout. He would sort the defensive situation out and build from there. Not too negative a brand either. If worse case scenario relegation was looking a certainty and we need to rebuild for the championship then Danny Cowley gets my vote. Worked wonders with Lincoln and currently turning huddersfield around.
No chance Wilder comes here right now. “Come to Southampton and have your burgeoning reputation ruined”. Nah.
Indeed. Sam doesn't take on a job if he doesn't have money to spent on January. Taking a club over in November/December, assessing the squad for a few weeks, and then going out in January to sign reinforcements is basically his modus operandi. So a positive of getting Sam would be that we finally get to utilise a January transfer window. But, as you allude to, we won't be wanting to spend money and therefore Sam wouldn't join us.
We beat Brighton away and Everton home last year, drew Utd and Bmouth at home, and drew Burnley away. So that's 9 points managed from last season, not 6. Or I am mis-remembering? (And that's before choosing to swap out the Cardiff away game, rather than the Huddersfield away game. Personally I take an average of all three relegated away games, which changes the above to 10 points managed from these fixtures last season.)
People keep saying about spending in January, but aren't we skint and in a perilous financial position? It's a popular opinion on here that we absolutely cannot afford to get relegated due to the issues around our wage bill, so surely no supporter is going to be happy to see us add to that without getting a player off it first? That's not really aimed at you btw mate, your post just provoked a thought I was having earlier.
Speculate to accumulate. If we don’t add anyone then we are almost certainly ****ed, if we add a player or two who turns out good it could save us. We are ****ed either way financially so I’d say roll the dice on a signing keeping us up
We don’t even need to add top quality players. A competent CB and steady hand at CDM would make such a difference. Can we poach anyone from Sheffield or Norwich?
Was 3 and half years ago. I think both Hoedt and Vestergaard cost more. January traditionally more expensive too.
