Is that the royal we? I haven't felt optimistic since that awful first game!

I guess in a way it was.

I agree for most of the games we have not been good and I was hopeful we would not be in a relegation battle this year.

Seems not but we still have three quarters of the season to go and for all of our poor performances we are not cut adrift at the bottom.

    One reason for some optimism?

It is always great to be optimistic, but Saints fans have to be morbid pessimists! It is in the dna!

It took until gameweek 17 to win our second league match last season and we were relatively comfortable in the end.

I know mate, we have had our fair share of lows and highs over the years.

There are moments that they make you so proud and other times more embarrassing than Gemma Collins on dancing on ice.

But we stick in there for the next high. We have to cling to that <laugh>

Optimism is way overrated. Pessimism is so much better.

Optimists always hope, even expect, things to work out well and for things to be nice. Unfortunately they are often deeply disappointed when it all turns to crap.

A pessimist is far more realistic, often expecting things to be tougher, and knowing that the crap will definitely hit the fan sometime soon.

I remember a group of us talking after a thumping win during the Koeman era and every one of us said "It's great to see us play like this, but it won't last".

And there you have it. The Saints supporters DNA.

We will hit the highs again, when the football flows through opposition defences like water and every shot on target is a goal. And I will be right ....eventually. Just like the pessimists were

Still buzzing from yesterday. For the first time in ages I'm actually looking forward to the next home game 6 days ahead!

I'm a bit confused about yesterday though. I definitely saw the ref show Söyüncü a yellow yesterday after the penalty decision. But no sites are showing it as a booking. Does that mean the VAR decision rescinds a yellow?? That can't be right - the motive behind the tackle still stands surely.

The yellow got rescinded. I guess if you let a yellow stand in that situation you'd have to let a red card stand (such as a handball on the line).

The yellow was rescinded because play stopped after the offside. It was no longer a goal scoring opportunity.

In that case it never was a goal scoring opportunity....it was Shane Long :)
