Gap between our last home win against Liverpool - 4 years Gap between our last win at Fratton- 35 years Plus it's the skates. #nocontest
Today has been wonderful. I can’t believe how many times I’ve messaged Liverpool supporting mates with: “knock, knock” They all replied, “Who’s there?” Amazingly when I followed up with, “Owen” each of them immediately came back with: “Owen who?” Well you all know what’s next. I almost felt sorry for the poor little lambs. But I didn’t. Apparently I’m an annoying little tw4t.
That’s all fair enough, but I really meant the sheer pressure those lads were under for most of the second half, and the slim but slowly growing hope that we might actually do it. As you say, they handled it like absolute heroes, and the sheer professionalism of the whole team, including the youngsters, was breathtaking.
Just had my 9am EST 'stand up' call. And....4 on the call knew we beat Liverpool and congratulated me on it *They are Spanish/Latin Americans though that support Barcelona/Real Madrid
Oh, he definitely looked good, but I didn’t want to get carried away. A wise man once said “You shouldn’t judge a player until he has had a run of six games”. Can’t recall who.
My Toon mate just called me. After the initial pisstake about Ralph weeping, he said he’d probably cry himself if he saw his team play like we did yesterday. He said I must be so proud and he can only dream that his team can do something like that. High praise
AC Milan are the most improved European team over the past 12 months, according to football analysts Gracenote. Milan, who play reigning Italian champions Juventus on Wednesday, are top of Serie A, a point ahead of Inter Milan and 10 clear of Juve in fifth. Southampton, 1-0 winners over Premier League champions Liverpool on Monday, are classed as the most improved side in England’s top flight.
Steady on old chap: Many women have made it their life’s work to reduce a man to a quivering mess of uncontrolled emotions. Doesn’t mean they or any one else is happy with the result though. A barely perceptible tremble of the stiff upper lip would normally suffice, and let’s be honest, emotional Austrians have given cause for concern in the past. But I think we can all make an exception in Ralph’s case.
I was just looking through some of the prematch comments. A better man than I wrote: "Cowards die many times before their death The valiant never taste of death but once". I go into every single game expecting us to win. Give it a go. It's great.
I'm not talking about self pitying tears but rather tears of joy, pride, love and grief. It may be that the British are conditioned to be stiff upper lipped but that has just bred a whole race of emotionally repressed and in many ways screwed up men. Nothing wrong with showing sensitivity at the right moments and Ralph is obviously a sensitive and cultured man (he plays the piano!)
At last. Some genuine self-reflection. Well done, FLT. You'll feel so much better now. You can drop the 'Apparently' of course.
Apparently a stiff upper lip isn’t always wrong according to one study. Talking it out, but then not wallowing is the best....continuously revisiting trauma can just consolidate it. The answer (like most things) is probably somewhere in the middle.
Showing feelings and emotions are the most natural things a human can do that's why we have them, suppressing or bottling it up is not healthy IMO.
Basically 24 hours on, and I'm still smiling. The entire back four and Diallo were excellent (Bertrand just pipped Stephens and Diallo to my MOTM), and Armstrong had his best game for ages. The only downside - the only one - was the Djenepo injury. We're starting to become seriously stretched now. European football next season is a real possibility, and I just hope these injuries don't cost us that. Bringing in a couple of bodies this month, even if just a PL loan and an overseas loan, could be so important.
