After the premier league games this weekend which Saints earned a good draw 1-1 away at Man City and
Sunderland lost to a late injury time winner away to West Ham 1-0 ,our attention now turns to the EFL cup
in which Saints ran out 2-0 winners against Crystal Palace at home with goals from Austin and Hesketh and Sunderland won away at QPR 1-2 with a brace from McNair.
Redmond is back, Boufal has now made 2 sub appearances, Bertrand will be ready for Chelsea but Long is still likely to miss out.

    My predicted team is....

    McCarthy
    Cuco,VVD,Yoshida,McQueen
    Clasie,Reed,JWP
    Jay Rod,Boufal
    Redmond.

    Referee : Christopher Kavanagh
    Linesmen: Darren Blunden,Matt Foley
    Fourth official: James Adcock

Reckon we could smash them. Boufal has to start and they won't give a toss.

the manager said that young Valerie was not ready for a full team game, yet Cuco has played all the last 4 games, he needs a rest if he is to play on sunday. Stephens maybe

    My team would be:
    McCarthy
    Cuco,Fonte,Yoshida,McQueen
    Hojbjerg,Reed,JWP
    Boufal
    JRod,Redmond.
With Olomola on the bench for his debut later in the game

I'm for this ... though Stephens wasn't namechecked as an option for RB by Claude so maybe Yoshi there and Stephens at CB.

I'd like to see McQueen rested too but don't think that's possible.

What's the latest on Targett and Ryan? Worry about McQueen playing 3rd game in 6 days.

Can Stephens play full back does anyone know?

With both teams resting a few could be a good game seeing as both teams produce good young players.

McCarthy will obviously start, rests for Virgil, Romeu, Tadic & Austin.

    Boufal to start please.

That's about it. Don't know what Claude think's of Reed, he's yet to feature under him, I think. Maybe he sees Stephens at the base of the diamond or maybe Hojbjerg.

What's happened with Hesketh ? After that great showing and goal against Palace, we haven't seen him. Think he's got a chance of playing this week, or is he injured?

Stephens was signed as a RB, but we converted him into a CB (who can play DM).

You'd think......but that's not how they roll. More likely, they will put all their effort into this fixture.....then lose the next three league games.

So him playing rb is a possibilty then? Assuming that's why he's been on the bench recently.

    Josh Sims a noticeable absentee

Right Back Bakary not selected, but he has been struggling to hold his u23.

Looks promising then for some more of the youngsters to have a run out - very good news indeed. Want a win but with Chelsea at the weekend and the number of games we have are having to play; not sad if this competition passes us by this season.
