Of course there would be some disappointment. We wouldn't be human if there wasn't would we. But it wouldn't be a disaster either and we would still have had an entertaining and good season, It is quite amusing sometimes to read about "the players we should have had". Despite a few years in desperate poverty and almost losing the club altogether supporters would still have the Board spend money they don't have to import these sorts. I mean we would all love a bench full of first team standard players. The fact that we couldn't afford them is neither here nor there is it. If promotion came then everyone would embrace it even if the visit to the Championship might be short lived. There is no point in taking part if you don't want to do well or as well as you possibly can. However, there is no point in Bankruptcy either.

So after Tuesday nights games (19th).

Wigan need only 1pt to be Champions because of superior goal difference....2pts to be mathmatically certain.

And of course we are their next match....draw or beat us and their champions.

On paper automatic promotion is still possible down to 7th position........and the play-offs down to 8th position.

When was the last time so many teams could get over 80pts and not get promoted or even in the play-offs ?

Michael Cooper is named as No1 keeper in Div1.....he is named in the team of the season for Div1......well done.....we will possibly lose him in the summer and will need to find another.

Yes well deserved but did you see the remarks of the Portsmouth Manager that they have quoted on pasoti? What a dickhead with no class.

Well that all went south in the last 10 minutes. Fleetwood never looked capable of holding Sheffield Wednesday but Rotherham should have beaten Sunderland.

Still, it hardly matters: we have to beat MK Dons on Saturday.

It's quite simple we just have to equal or better Wycombe's result. It doesn't matter then what the rest do. This is Argyle with a sort of track record.......what do you reckon?

We could win Saturday and still end up 7th...if Wycombe better our score by two goals.....and Sunderland and Sheffield W win as well.

That would be the last straw losing out to Wycombe on goal difference.

If they end up with the same goal difference as us...they would end up 6th because they have scored more goals than us......in fact all the clubs above us have scored more goal than us......our goals having dried up recently could cost us dear.

For feck sake stop worrying yourselves you lot. At the average age of posters on here you may not live to see Saturday. It's written in the historical stars that if there are 6 different scenarios then Argyle will achieve the one that fails most. If you cling on to that thought then nothing that happens on Saturday will surprise you.

Fascinating set of documentaries being re-run on BBC2 at the moment:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01b434y

Episode 1 dealt with Putin and the oligarchs when he first became president: oddly his pitch then was anti-corruption... the second how he fixed the 2004 Ukrainian election....

Some top level people taking part... Colin Powell ex US National Security Adviser, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, also US National Security Adviser and Secretary of State, Mikhael Kasyanov, ex Russian prime minister, Sergei Ivanov, ex Russian defence minister, Jonathan Powell, Tony Blair's chief of staff, George Robertson, ex Secretary General of NATO...

    Summer shopping list.

1.....A physical striker who can hold the ball up and damn well head the ball.....needed as an alternative when PLAN 'A' doesn't work......limited goal scorers in the team.

2.....A physical mid-fielder who can control and dominate.

    3.....Two wing-backs (L & R) who can actually cross the ball....especially from corners.

4.....A long throw expert....generally our throw-ins are rubbish and rarely lead to anything positive.

5.....Another Keeper who could challenge Michael Cooper......I don't feel Callum Burton is high profile enough.......not complaining on Cooper's ability... but he has no one really challenging him.

Players who need replacing.....Houghton.....Mayor....Jephcott.....G Cooper.....I think we need to upgrade if we want to play in the Championship.

If Michael Cooper and Panutche Camara move on then we need to get full value for them....not the usual Argyle value.

PS.....Just a few thoughts shared with tongue in cheek ?

Who will be let go and who will stay.....and who might be on the shopping list....goals from mid-field might be helpful this coming season.

New opponents next season.......Derby, Peterboro, Barnsley, Exeter, F G Rovers, and two others...one might be Bristol R's and maybe Swindon as well.....so less travelling with probably three or four more local matches.

I disagree with most of that Plym.

    1. To play in this style, we need a striker who's not only tall and strong but who's also quick with good feet and can score goals. We just need the £5m or £10m to buy him.
    2. Houghton's done a quiet but admirable job this season
    3. Connor Grant is one of the best crossers of the ball in this league and can score stonking goals from distance. Joe Edwards is a strong all rounder and a leader. Those two have chipped in 7 and 5 goals respectively.
    4. Not our style and we aren't just going to spend money on a siege engine.
    5. Cooper doesn't need a challenge, he's been brilliant. Whether Burton would be up to it if Cooper was unavailable I don't know. The club have generally brought players in on contracts of 2 years plus. Cooper is under contract until 2024 and Camara until 2023. Camara's been offered a new 2 year contract early but hasn't signed yet. The club can't do much more and if offers do come in for them then there is leverage to get a full price.
No doubt we'll try to strengthen but we categorically do not need a clear out.

And of course you haven't mentioned the one who all the analytics in the world wouldn't find a replacement for: Danny Mayor.

We were in Row C yesterday, quite low down, almost dead on the half-way line, At one point in the first half, he ran at speed past us with the ball at his feet and it's so effortless and graceful. He doesn't look at the ball and yet it sticks as close to him as a dog to its beloved master. One of theirs tried a lunging tackle or trip... but Mayor's changed direction so abruptly that he's left on his ass looking completely stupid.

How you find that again I don't know.... unless we already have and it's the Cockney Pirlo, Alfie Lewis.

I also disagree with most of the post as well notdistant but I have a little problem with some of yours as well.

Houghton is being made a scape goat by the usual suspects on pasoti. He has generally been very good this season although as with all players has cocked up a few times as well. He was sent off yesterday by an incompetent Ref who was weak throughout and bowed to player pressure. We gave away 16 fouls according to the stats. This is the team that prior to this game were head and shoulders above others on fair play charts and hadn't had a player sent off all season. They threw themselves into the air and onto the grass every time they got within a few yards of the box and the Ref gave it. That wasn't Houghton's fault.

I had a conversation about Danny Mayor over a pint yesterday. I have to agree that with the ball at his feet he is mesmerising. He does glide and his control and change of pace or direction in a flash is second to none. But, his final contribution is often sadly lacking. His attempts at goal are more pass backs to the keepers than shots on goal and look quite embarrassing. I love watching him and his dribbling but is he really a luxury player rather than a match winner? On the other hand I wouldn't want him in an opposing team. Hard one to call.
