So am I Ides, especially with the season long loan of the young Morrocan striker Gassan Ahadme from Norwich City finally completed. He looks really good so far, with seven goals in three pre-season friendlies to date.

Portsmouth FC confirmed today that Toby Steward their 16 yr old academy U18 goalkeeper has been called up today by the England FA to attend an England training camp in early August.

The former Henry Cort Community College keeper will link up with the young Lions next month.

It's reward for Steward, who has risen through the ranks at PO4.

The 16-year-old started his two-year scholarship at Fratton Park this summer.

Portsmouth have Corey Addai on trial following his departure from Barnsley.
Portsmouth are casting an eye over the goalkeeper in pre-season, as per a report by The News.

Addai, who is 23-years-old, is a free agent after being released by Barnsley at the end of last season.

He is now hoping to earn a contract with Pompey in League One for the upcoming campaign.

Addai moved to Oakwell last summer but his time in South Yorkshire lasted only a single season.

The 6ft 7inc stopper was released by fellow Championship side Coventry City at the end of the 2019/20 campaign and finds himself in the same situation this year as an unattached player.

Barnsley brought him in on trial 12 months ago and he did enough to earn a contract.

He has played for their Under-23’s this past term and has also had a loan spell away at National League side Chesterfield to get some experience under his belt.

Addai spent time in the academy at Arsenal before linking up with Coventry. He then rose up through the Sky Blues’ ranks but never made a senior appearance.

Instead, he had loan stints in non-league with Mickleover Sports and AFC Telford United to get some game time.

Former Chelsea defender Renedi Masampu featured as a trialist during Portsmouth's 1-1 draw with Luton Town and here is a profile on the free agent left-back.

Masampu was one part of a six-man substitution that took place with nine minutes remaining, with the 21-year-old replacing Lee Brown for Pompey late on at Kenilworth Road.

The defender has been a free agent since leaving non-league side Dulwich Hamlet in November 2020, but did spend two years at Chelsea between 2017 and 2019. Masampu’s trial has seen Brandon Mason return to Coventry City, despite being heavily linked with a loan switch.

Renedi Masampu is a 21-year-old, left-back born in London, England. Masampu has never played any senior football before in England’s four professional leagues, but has represented Metropolitan Police, Whyteleafe and Dulwich Hamlet in non-league.

After impressing with Met Police, he signed a deal with Chelsea’s under-18s in the summer of 2017.

A left-back that can also play as a left winger, Masampu played six times for the under-18s during the 2017/18 season before being promoted to the under-23s.

Masampu only made one appearance in the 2018/19 term, featuring as a substitute for the final minute of a Premier League 2 win over Swansea City. In the same season, he was an unused substitute in each of their opening four matches of their EFL Trophy campaign.

At the end of the 2018/19 term, Masampu left Stamford Bridge, having briefly trained with the first-team in early 2019. His spell with the Blues saw him play alongside Reece James, Conor Gallagher and Tariq Lamptey.

Since leaving the current Champions League holders, Masampu has had short spells with Whyteleafe and Dulwich, leaving the latter in November 2020.

The defender has been a free agent for eight months, but has played in pre-season as a trialist for Wednesday.
Masampu was on trial with the Owls earlier this month and featured in pre-season matches for Darren Moore’s side.

It is understood that the full-back played for them in pre-season matches against Celtic, Chester and Alfreton Town.

After auditioning for one of Pompey’s promotion-chasing rivals, Wednesday opted not to sign the left-back.

It was a late Pompey cameo for Masampa, who was one of six players to come on in the 81st minute alongside fellow trialist Elijah Dixon-Bonner, Haji Mnoga, Ellis Harrison, Jayden Reid and Michael Jacobs.

If the defender is still with the club for the behind closed doors friendly against a Chelsea Under-23s side, it is likely that he will start the game as head coach Danny Cowley looks to rotate from the side that started against Luton.

Portsmouth trialist Elijah Dixon-Bonner could depart Liverpool this summer, with the Anfield club looking to move him on permanently.
Reports emerged from the Liverpool Echo on Sunday providing an update on the Liverpool prodigy’s situation.

Portsmouth have been keeping a close eye on Dixon-Bonner ahead of the new season, bringing him in on trial as Danny Cowley casts his eye over potential additions.

It is said that it remains unclear as to whether or not Pompey will offer the young midfielder a deal. However, Liverpool’s reported stance will provide the League One side with encouragement should they pursue a move.

Liverpool are reportedly looking to offload Dixon-Bonner on a permanent basis this summer.

The Anfield club would prefer to move him on for good, allowing him to pick up senior experience elsewhere rather than remain in their youth academy.

Dixon-Bonner has spent the vast majority of his career playing in Liverpool’s youth academy, playing one senior game for the club. While on the books with the Merseysiders, the 20-year-old has notched up 46 appearances for the U18s and 43 appearances for the U23s.

Dixon-Bonner looks to be a talented midfielder and a promising player for the future.

He can feature in a range of roles in midfield as well as out on the wing. He also possesses leadership qualities, having captained Liverpool’s youth sides on occasion.

It remains to be seen if he can earn a deal with Portsmouth, but he could prove to be a shrewd signing for Cowley.

Jayden Reid is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

The winger only completed his switch to the Blues a week ago, having left Birmingham at the end of last season.

But he was forced off towards the end of Saturday’s pre-season friendly draw at Luton, having been on the pitch for just seven minutes.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “Jayden has ruptured his cruciate ligament. We’re waiting for the inflammation to settle down and then the specialist will have a look at it.

“He’ll need to have surgery and is going to be out for the foreseeable future, which is extremely disappointing.

“Jayden came in and did great for us – we were really excited to see how he would develop this season.

“He provides real pace, penetration and athleticism and is also a great person – he really is a lovely lad.

Former Arsenal midfielder Robbie Burton has emerged as a potential transfer target for Portsmouth as Danny Cowley looks to shape his Pompey squad for the new League One season.

The new League One season is just five days away - and Portsmouth still have work to do in the transfer market.

After seeing several senior players from last season's squad depart Fratton Park this summer, there have been eight new arrivals at Pompey as Danny Cowley shapes his squad for the new campaign.

But Cowley still wants more signings and Portsmouth continue to be linked with a number of players, including Gillingham defender Connor Ogilvie.

But the latest name to emerge as a potential transfer target for the Blues is former Arsenal midfielder Robbie Burton, who is currently plying his trade in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb.

Burton left the Gunners last year to join the Croatian side, having come through the ranks in north London and not made the breakthrough into the first team at Arsenal.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in March about his decision to leave Arsenal last year, the 21-year-old said: "There was no real plan for me at Arsenal.

"Here [at Zagreb], they offered a plan, the chance of first-team football. We played against them with Arsenal's Under 23s in the Premier League International Cup and my agent told me they were interested.

"I felt I was ready to make the step into the first team and it was something I just couldn't turn down. There is a lot of history at the club and I wanted to be a part of it."

Unfortunately, it hasn't really happened for Burton in Croatia, with the Welsh midfielder playing just 12 times for Zagreb last season.

That did include an appearance in the Europa League for the Croatian side, but now he is being strongly linked with a return to England amid reported interest from Portsmouth.

Reports in Croatia suggest that Burton could make a short-term switch to Pompey, with a season-long loan possible with the option of making the move permanent.

One thing is for certain, Burton wants game time, having said as much in March when he had made just nine appearances for the Croatian side.

You will get wildly differing views on Ogilvie, but here's mine...

I think he's a decent lad and will score you goals. In fact I'd say he has an eye for goal, why the hell we have played him at CB during his time with the Gills is beyond me. Use him on the left wing.

I'm disappointed he didn't choose to stay, but at the same time I don't blame him, you won't hear that from many a Gills fan who just want to put the boot in.

    Could he make Championship level?

I see something in the lad and I don't say that often, the last time my eye got anything right was with Paulo Gazzaniga, before he took his place between the sticks for us, so it's not a bad eye.

It's going to be down to whether you play him in the right position and get the best out of him. I think he needs to be allowed to get forward more, let him mix it up, he needs to be made to recognise his own potential.

He's pretty ruthless when he has an eye for goal. CB my arse. Would I have him back, simple, YES!

    Good luck to him.

<cheers> brb. From what I have seen of him, he looks a pretty decent player, and should push Lee Brown for a first team place this season.

Whatever you do, don't play him at CB. Why Evans persisted with doing that is beyond me, I know he needed someone to fill the hole with the limited budget we have, but CB was just criminal. I'd have stuck one of our big front boys at the back and made him a striker if we were that desperate.

Pompey have completed the signing of 25-year-old defender Connor Ogilvie.

He has put pen to paper on a two-year-deal – with the club option of a further 12 months – after leaving Gillingham at the end of last season.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “Connor is someone who’s been a really consistent performer at League One level for a number of years.

“He’s won Player of the Season awards for Gillingham and was a key member of their side after coming through at Tottenham.

“Being able to play as a left-back or a left-sided centre-half offers us versatility and also real competition for places, which is crucial in a 46-game season.

“Connor has got a lovely range of passing and good technical attributes, while he’ll weigh in with goals as well.

“He’s got the qualities that Pompey fans will like to see – he’s brave and willing to put his head in where it hurts.

“That physicality will be a really big asset for us and so we’re delighted to bring Connor into the club.”

Ogilvie progressed through the ranks at Tottenham and gained first team experience with loan spells at Stevenage and Gillingham.

He joined the latter club on a permanent deal in the summer of 2019 and was named Player of the Year at the end of his first season.

The former England U17 international made a total of 171 appearances for the Gills, scoring 10 goals.

Leicester City's 6' 3" striker George Hirst has been training with Portsmouth on trial ahead of a potential loan move to Fratton Park.

The 22-year-old, formerly of Sheffield Wednesday and Belgian side OH Leuven, was spotted by some Blues supporters training with Danny Cowley’s side at the ROKO training centre earlier today.

HampshireLive understands that the son of former Wednesday and Southampton striker David Hirst has been given permission to train with Cowley’s side ahead of their pre-season friendly against Bournemouth tomorrow.

It is also understood that should the Blues’ boss be keen on striking a deal for Hirst, it would only be as a loan option, similar to the deal that saw Moroccan striker Gassan Ahadme join on loan from Norwich City last month.

Portsmouth have signed Leicester City's George Hirst on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old striker is the son of ex-Sheffield Wednesday forward David Hirst and is a former England Under-20 international.

He made 32 appearances on loan at Rotherham United last season and was twice a substitute in the Premier League for the Foxes in July last year.

He also spent a season at Belgian side OH Leuven having come up through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday.

"George is still a really young boy, but it feels as though he's been around forever," Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley told the club website.

"He didn't have it all his own way at Rotherham last season. He didn't play as much as he would have liked and it probably wasn't the right fit for either party.

"Sometimes that happens in football, but we like to sign players who have got a point to prove and we see a real hunger and desire to succeed in George.

"When you don't have everything your own way, it can really motivate you. We certainly believe in his abilities."

    Joe Morrell

League One club Portsmouth have signed Wales midfielder Joe Morrell from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee and brought in Louis Thompson on a free transfer.

Morrell, 24, has agreed a three-year contract, and Pompey have an option to extend the deal by a further year.

He only made 11 appearances for the Hatters after joining last October.

5' 11" midfielder Thompson joins after being released by Norwich City earlier this summer, and has signed a one-year deal with the option of another 12 months. He is the younger brother of ex-Pompey defender Nathan Thompson.

The 26-year-old, a former Wales Under-21 international, only registered 14 senior outings for the Canaries but he featured 21 times during a loan spell at MK Dons last season.

Former Bristol City man Morrell started all three of Wales' group games at Euro 2020 this summer, as well as the last-16 defeat by Denmark.

He previously played under Pompey boss Danny Cowley during a loan spell at Lincoln during the 2019-20 campaign.

"Joe will bring a really infectious energy and enthusiasm to our team," Cowley told the club website.

"It was great to watch him in the Euros over the summer and he's a really talented player, who will offer calmness on the ball."
