Was that nofucks/ nofx ? USA punk band , I think they were on the Word or one of those late night Ch 4 progs
There was also a UK band. I saw them support The Albertos, in Chelmsford in 80 or 81 or thereabouts. They were so-so but the drummer was great.
NOFX. I don’t like ‘em much, but front man Fat Mike is also in Me First And The Gimme Gimmes who do punk covers of very non punk songs - they’re great fun. Country Roads, Who Put The Bomp etc, The Boxer are particular faves
Punk gave so many bands the belief that could form a band, make their own distinctive music and make a splash - from Spandau Ballet to The Smiths. Some - like Adam Ant became mainstream stars
Err ... yes. "Pretty much all music in this country in the 80's owes its existence to punk....even Stock Aitken and Waterman." Good to know that Disco, Synth pop / New romantics, Hip-hop, House etc would not have happened without Punk (Bowie / Roxy music, Kraftwerk, Kool Herc et al have been feeding us decades of lies ) . < year zero >
I suggest that you do a bit of research on the Human League, Heaven 17, Depeche Mode, Psychic TV, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, New Order, Stone Roses, Blur, Oasis and all of them were punks or fans of punk and what it brought to the UK music scene. Many recorded on independent labels and they will all have played at venues that grew out of the punk scene. You may not like it...but it doesn't make it any less true.
It’s a bit of a myth tbh. The Ramones only knew three chords but to play them at breakneck speed took quite a lot of skill. Programming a tune into a synth or drum machine took a lot less talent.
To an extent....'Yes'. A lot of the synth bands freely admit that they wanted in to what punk was doing without having to spend the time learning to play.
I suggest you do likewise (influences, record labels etc) . Though those infected with "year zero" itus may find it painful to endure ...
Which 70s synth / drum machine programming interfaces are you talking about ?? < year zero - with addfed >
Andy McClusky and Stuart Kershaw were Atomic Kitten's main songwriters on their first album and founded the group. They wrote Whole Again, for example. OMD went on to "cover" it, hilariously:
This. It might interest some that this band gave an opportunity to a young front man called Stephen Morrissey and a guitarist called Billy Duffy. I wonder what happened to them?
I subscribe to crash records and just received notice that Weller has got a new album out on May 14th called Fat Pop vol 1 , sounds very good
