RIP Lamont Dozier. I'll post this in his honour and in memory of 'Mike The Mad Axe' and those crazy Loughbrough nights...
I'll post this in his honour, (I know he wrote so many great songs), but being name checked in one of Billys best must have been a highlight.
My parents didn't own any Motown records. I discovered that stuff from a mate, whose parent owned all of the Motown Chartbuster albums. Early Tuesday morning, when Rebellion had closed, Mrs B and I were in 'Ma Kelly's', joining a hen night on the dance floor , throwing some shapes to this belter...
Top Rank Watford, never a night without these, the tambourine on the high hat and you know it's a Motown track
My 60th birthday party was mostly Motown tracks and the place was rocking because young or old you have to dance to that beat you dont have to be an expert you just shuffle and get in the groove
At my funeral the lid will have to be screwed down tight if Stevie Wonder " I was made to love her or Supremes " stoned love " with Jean Terrel on vocals get played
A few years back, Mrs B and I went to a Motown night at the O2. Headlined by The Four Tops (1 original member) and The Temptations (1 original member). Due to my mate who bought the tickets earning more money than even I could spend, we ended up seated in the second row. People got up to dance to the hits, as you would expect...only Brian got up and did the full psychedelic freak out to Ball of Confusion and Papa Was a Rolling Stone. I felt better having paid about £135 per ticket for me and Mrs B...that and watching the Motown Orchestra horn section close up. What the rest of the audience thought...who cares?
Two great songs that deserved the works , the Temps have a fantastic back catalogue that gets overlooked, I wish it would rain is a brilliant song used in I think a Vietnam war film that I can't remember which one but it is so of the time and sets the scene well
