A mate of mine, Martin The BFNG, used to manage these guys...and very good they were too! A bit country/Cajun/bluegrass...and all great fun. I was in the audience for this one...
Many towns put a tree up at Christmas, Timperley dress up their Frank Sidebottom statue , brilliant gesture to a man who went too early
Very reminiscent of the Boothill Foot Tappers, probably around the same sort of time, who I saw loads of times live around 84/85 as they always seemed to be playing the Dublin Castle in Camden! In fact I've still got my ticket for a gig at the Empire Rooms, Tottenham Court Road in June '84 for some NME Six Day Wonder promotion when they supported Lloyd Cole and the Commotions just after Perfect Skin came out. Remember it being a cracking gig as I was always up for a bit of Lloyd Cole who I've seen a few times live as well so both bands had my full attention! Slim went on more recently to join the Urban Voodoo Machine who are well worth catching live if you ever get the chance, oh and yes that is Wendy May. Some of you may remember she used to DJ at the Town and Country Club back in the 80's! Quality of this recording is **** but it was their only "hit" I want to say this pic was actually taken downstairs at the Hammersmith Clarendon, one of my favourite small venues, in May '84 apparently according to my diary, ably supported by Rebel Blues Rockers although I don't remember them at all!
I remember the Boothill Foot Tappers...well, the name certainly. I don't think that I ever saw them or Lloyd Cole, but I owned at least one of his albums before my sister nicked it.
A bit of rockabilly for the weekend, sir? This one is probably slightly more 'surfer' than rockabilly, but Zombierella, the bassist is a very fine looking woman ... ...as is this young lady... ...and this one, too... ...and this bloke's nicked my ****ing jacket... ...actually, I'll let him off, as he's got one of the best voices in rock.
And in news that will surprise no one here according to Spotify are the artists I have l listened to the most this year. Apparently I am in the top 0.08% of Paul Weller listeners with over 5000 mins of the 96000 mins I was listening on spotify! please log in to view this image
Spotify have also kindly created a me a playlist of my 100 most played songs which is full of the usual suspects, but was surprised to find these 2 in there And don't you just love Nats stringless banjo!
My Mum used to tell me that I have met Tommy Steele , I loved " little White Bull " and relative of ours knew Tommy so it was arranged for me to meet him , I was 3 yrs old but I still love that song and flash bang wallop so do my grandkids
One of my all time favourite movies, I'll never tire of this. Dan Ackroyd's "baby" at the end of Stand By Your Man always makes me smile! Clearly great minds and all that as I've literally just posted this to see Alfie's post!
Good show...great music... ...after 40 something years, TV shows are 'discovering' the music of my teenage years....
please log in to view this image 40 years ago today, as we have discussed here before not their greatest gigs, but still a significant moment in my youth. For what it's worth I think Weller was right to split the Jam. 40 years on their legacy remains intact the songs produced in that 6 year period have stood test of time and not been diluted by the music that followed, the majority of which I have liked, but that was not the case for many of the bands biggest fans.
Received my copy of the Mudd Club's first LP Bottle Blonde this morning, on gorgeous green vinyl courtesy of Bandcamp, and currently playing the **** out of it as I've got a day off. Just thought I'd share that with you all and as Thanks for that Brian mentioned a desire to see them live here's the title track of said LP from Bristol last year!
That wallpaper looks familiar.... Loving the band...but I'm off blondes since Mrs B II...apart from the bassist of The Molotovs and one of the dancers from the stage show of Moulin Rouge and....and....and...
