the news here in Derby is that McLaren is Newcastle bound and the compensation is already sorted, done deal according to insiders at DCFC, certainly looks as though something has happened due to our huge dip in form.

The problem is with McLaren and I have nothing against him, if he comes here it will end in ****ing disaster and you can bet the ****ing house on it.

I have a bit of respect for him as a manager, done wonders at Boro, got some good players at Derby, but I reckon he hasn't got the balls to stand up to the fcb.

Not excited for this. Can't get excited for anything Newcastle related until the fat man leaves. So glad I don't even bother watching the matches anymore.

I think McLaren would be a decent appointment. Will he get the funds to build a proper team though? And just as importantly will he be given time to build a team before someone sets up SackMcLaren.com?

Bumping this in light of BetVictor changing their odds to 1/20 (twenty to one ON!) today.

Any legs? Seems an odd one, why would BV more or less close the book by all accounts? Perhaps someone could give insight, but it looks like a fair indicator.

I know a Derby fan who swears blind they are, as we speak looking for a replacement for him.
He's basically out of the door whatever happens.

If we don't get him then I can't see anyone else doing it bar Carver.

I know that not everybody agrees but to me this would be good news and far better than Carver. Some will say we should be aiming a lot higher than 'better than Carver' but it's a bit like facing relegation. Yes nobody wants to finish 17th but its a damn attractive position on relegation day! The same applies. There are better managers out there than McLaren, but most of the realistic options would be worse - including John Carver!

Call me mental, but there aren't many better than McLaren, not for what he's done at most places he's gone. No2 to Sir Alex for YEARS, won the Eredivisie, won silverware with Boro, tough job in Germany but again proves class at Derby. England was the wrong job for him he can't be beaten with that stick.

He'd be a fantastic appointment, IF (it's a big if) he gets the support he needs.

McClaren is decent manager. I'd still probably have him in the average bracket like Pardew, but a level above. It goes without saying that compared to Carver it's like bringing Mourinho in. The thing that is really wrong with the club, though, is the recruitment policy. Not the getting value for money and living within our means part, which I think as a overriding principle is sound, but the not scrimping and saving on bargain basement rubbish and leaving the manager short in several areas of the squad. What is driving that is Mike Ashley's aims for the club and I don't think he's about to change his mind on having the club make a profit every year (possibly to get his loan repaid) and in terms of ambition keep treading water in the league and ignore the cup competitions.

Schtevie + £30-£40m for players (which we apparently have in the bank) and I think we can be top ten again next season. Nothing spectacular but 8th-12th and something to build on.

Many if's and buts there though.

Realistically we'll get Carver a profit (or breaking even) in the market and 17th.

I think McLaren's strength is his coaching ability which is exactly what we need
