Agreed - I don't understand this new obsession with a "pacey centre back". Yes you get the odd one (VVD) who is blessed with pace but 99% of world class CBs aren't particularly quick. Not sure who first said it but if a defender has to rely on his pace it is usually because he has made a mistake with his positioning.
I would put money on Terry being quicker, seriously he is pretty slow in comparison. It becomes more important when we push up and the opposition launch it long. He has good anticipation which compensates some of the time but is a issue as our full backs are generally miles away and can’t work round to cover him
He did a pretty good job rebuilding us though. Maybe not from our academy but by buying players in. When you thing of the players we lost before he joined he did amazingly well
With a touch of cynicism, if he's so good why did he sign for us. Was it so that we could sell him to L'pool at a massive profit?
I'd rather see a one year extension than that. Not sure idf that ever happens but it would be good for all I think.
Not only when they launch it long, but against counters in general. We can mock the pacey CB thing all we want, but we play a high line in a league increasingly populated by lightning fast, very direct strikers...they don't need to be Olympic sprinters but it really helps if they aren't oil tankers either.
There is no quote from Bednarek there, but apparently it will come as no surprise to us supporters for him to get linked with a move away What, like any player who turns in a few good performances for us?
