I seem to remember Bertrand posting something on Instagram after Ralph’s first game. Something along the lines of “FINALLY! A plan!”
Doubt it was Ralph's first match. That was a thoroughly miserable afternoon in Cardiff as I recall. I do remember something vaguely similar though. After the Arsenal win perhaps.
I think it was against Arsenal. It was something like Finally! That's what happens when you play attacking football.
I've always been a fan of Bertrand. 99 times out of 100 he'll take care of his defensive duties on his side of the pitch, and so much of the good creative play by Tadic and now Redmond comes from his support play and overlapping option.
I was at that game. A miserable afternoon yes, but there was some notice of intent. We were the only team who looked like scoring, until Vesty fell asleep and got mugged. 1-0 (we got Colined) and a long journey home, but Ralph came over to greet the travelling fans, and got a fair reception.
I thought we were pretty stocked for RB and CB after the latest signings. I would have said LB and CM (PEH replacement) were the priority now.
I think he was stating what actions the club has already taken this window. I think that Ralph has shown a bit of faith in Vokins at LB recently.
Oh right, misunderstood. Vokins is a great talent but still relatively unproven, wouldn't want to rely on him if Bertrand for injured. Would feel better with some experience as backup, or pushing Bertrand for a starting spot/
Depends on Ralph really, if he feels that he can improve the lad then that's fine by me, there has to be an element of trusting these young talents at some point.
And this is where we've gone wrong over the years, buying bloated squad players who are "backups". More than happy with Vokins being eased in gradually, and exactly how our club should be doing things. We aren't going to buy a better LB than Bertrand, so signing a backup to block the path of Vokins defeats our way of doing things.
Yep, we can't afford to buy another 11 back ups. That is why we need to use youth as back up where possible. Not only does having Vokins/Valery/Smallbone/Obafemi etc as back up allow us to buy & keep better starting XI players, but it provides them with the pathway into the 1st team.
I'm all for this approach, but the worry with me is a long term injury to the first choice so we would have to solely rely on the unproved youngster for a extended period of time. I get that if we do get the backup then they would want to be played so the youngster maybe wouldn't get as much of a chance, it's a difficult balance.
One new CDM and I will be more than happy with who we have brought in and who we have signed up to new contracts
If rumours are true then Everton will start next season with a brand new midfield 3 of: James Rodriquez (29) £26m Allan (29) £22m Doucoure (27) £25/£30m What do we think - good business or with those fees & ages is it all a bit "west hammy"?
I wouldn't say West Hammy at all. Three top quality signings there. I'd be particularly excited about Allan. Rodriguez could be hit or miss, but if he plays as well as he can, he could be their best player by a distance. Everton are my dark horse this season.
