That’s us out, £35m is way,way more than we can afford. West Ham have joined Chelsea and a host of other clubs in the race for Brentford's 25-year-old English striker Ivan Toney, who will cost £35m. (Sun)
Premier League-bound Norwich City are in competition with Southampton and West Hamto sign Manchester United and England Under-21 full-back Brandon Williams, 20, on loan in the summer. (Sun)
You would assume that clubs in Europe would’ve been hit very heavily by Covid and no fans as they don’t have the tv deal the PL does. I’d expect a lot of cheap players to be available this summer from abroad. Myron Boadu please
God knows why Chelsea would do that when they have Tammy Abraham (who will probably go for about £40m this summer).
Unfortunately nowadays you don’t get many (any?) “good” championship players around the £10M mark. Hence, I think we’ll be doing our business abroad again as per above. Only problem with that is these players, who will undoubtedly be young, take time to even settle into a new country, let alone team.
Can't see anyone spending £40m on Abraham. As people have said, European clubs will have been hit financially more so than English clubs. £40m spent in Europe this summer will get you almost anyone outside the very elite players already at big clubs (Haaland, Sancho etc.)
True, but Matty Cash was £14m, Eze was £16m and Joe Rodon was £11m, so there should be some decent players in our price range in that league. Covid may mean clubs accept lower offers, too. I quite like Pereira and Diangana at West Brom, but no idea how much they'd be. Would players like Ashley Maitland-Niles be about our price range? Lookman? While they've not been amazing this season, I think they could be very good players in the right team.
Wouldn't be surprised if someone like West Ham or Everton spent big on him. He's still Chelsea's top scorer this season and has hardly played since Tuchel came in.
Not that Ralph has total control here, but surely it is obvious that a club as cash strapped as we are simply can't afford to have 2 keepers on first choice salaries. We need 1 first choice and then a back up on a far lower salary, you know, like almost every side in world football
It must be really encouraging for Ralph to realise that he's dealing in free transfers and loans this summer. Man, he must want a half-decent takeover as much as we do...
I always wanted Bertrand to re-sign for a couple of years as it makes sense given our financial state, but if he doesn't want what we're offering then we should thank him for the years he's given us and look elsewhere.
Think there was an article about another PL manager where it was saying the free transfer market this year will have a lot more good players in it and most teams will be shopping there
We've been trying to bin him off somewhere for some time now. At this point, our best option might be an actual bin.
That’s one option. But morally it seems wrong that we pay him off so he can go and earn another salary on top of his paid up contract. I would rather pay him to sit on his ass, not allowing him to train or use any facilities.
