Why embarrassing? Most people were for it at the time. He's a good player to have coming on from the bench but in the end he decided he wanted to play regular football. Our loss - Bournemouth's gain. Hopefully he will come back strong after the op.
In fairness he had a pretty good season the one prior to this one and was keeping Che out the team with his Ings partnership. The majority of Ings 20+ came alongside him iirc. Fell off a cliff completely since though.
Depends on his wages, let’s not forget we have players like Elyanousso and Djenepo who are of equal use.
I can't see why it is necessary to knock Shane Long. I think Mowgli is 100% correct but would add that if Walcott is a good acquisition because of how he inspires and educates the younger players, what kind of influence and worth must Shane Long have? Even of he does not score goals himself, he always creates sufficient nuisance that a goal is likely to come about. No one tries harder than Shane Long and he never gives up. I was sorry to see him farmed off to Bournemouth. He would have been invaluable in the second half of the season when Saints were failing to convert chances.
Players like Timo Werner come to the Premier League and struggle. Shane is past it now but he served us well, considering he was predominantly relied on as a sub, or to come in when others were injured. Maybe three years was one too many, but at least he signed the damn contract, unlike most of our players.
Fans are so fickle, Shane has been a useful player for us and a good squad option with his pace and nuisance factor and he has always given 100% to the cause. I'm not going to knock him now just because it looks like his Saints days are finished.
Sterling and Mahrez anyone?.... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...m-Sterling-SHOCK-clubs-list-players-sale.html
TeamTalk are reporting that Saints have enquired about Daryl Dike. The Orlando City striker spent last season on loan at Barnsley, and finished the season with nine goals in nineteen games.
That fills me full of joy! We have plenty of strikers who don't score much, why would we need another?
Not any more it isn't. MLS has really gained popularity in the US in recent years and higher class of players are being brought in - Higuain and Matuidi for example. Standard has drastically improved.
Plus that was in the championship he scored 9 in 19. He’s only 20 so possibly another one for the future. Assume any striker we bring in will most likely be a bit part player anyway unless Ings leaves
