Villa were the sort of team I was expecting to be putting a bid in for JWP. Have wealthy owners who aren’t afraid to spend and a team where he would probably start. I never thought one of the big teams would come in for him due to how much he’d cost and how good he is. Just up to him if he wants to earn more money in a much more sideways move than many thought (though Villa are a much bigger club than us and with their owners I’d expect them to be a fair bit better than us on the pitch as well)
Also if it is true I would say there is at least a little bit of interest from JWP. Teams don’t bother wasting their time bidding on players if there is absolutely no interest. They will have spoken to his agent prior to the bid going in to see if their was any interest
If JWP does go I wouldn't expect Danny to sign a new contract and we will lose two key players with little chance of replacing them with the requisite quality.
I doubt JWP's future will have any bearing on Danny's decision. I suspect the only factor in that will be "Has anyone come in for me?" Which is why we'll lose him in the final week of the window.
I really can't see it. I would like to think that we'd demand £45m to £50m for JWP. And whilst I have little doubt that Villa could afford that, I'm not sure that they would be willing to do so. His value to us is greater than his true market value. If they sell Grealish for really stupid money, and duly proceed with splashing the cash left, right and centre without any care, then it could be change. But otherwise, I only see them offering £45m+ to someone who would be properly game changing for them. And that isn't JWP.
I still think he'll stay personally but they are big mates and IF we did happen to lose JWP I could see him being disillusioned. That's one of your better avatars btw....
Nobody will pay 50m for JWP, that’s insane. He’s a solid PL player and an important part of our team but his market value won’t be that high.
I wouldn't say they are much bigger than us, looking at furnover - both midtable. Granted, they have a ground that holds 8k more.
Absolutely. That's why I have no concerns about us losing him. Huge difference between what his market value is, and what is value to us is.
If JWP goes, then it's open season for anyone at Saints! Can we really be realistic at keeping let's say, Armstrong for one. JWP has become irreplaceable in my eyes. The club need to come out and say he's not for sale! I am totally disillusioned at the way the club is going, and if any of our key players get sold, I will have to seriously think about, if I want to get up at 8am on Saturdays and watch them!
You should support th3 club through thick and thin, Selling a player shouldn't make a difference. You support the badge, Not the player. Although JWP is a rare kind of player for us. I am not at all concerned about us selling him to Aston Villa.
Same applies this year too, though. Tella is the only Academy player to receive significant minutes this season, and that owed largely to injuries. I'd argue he probably should have played more on merit; Minamino played as much as him, and Walcott considerably more.
JWP's market value is probably around £40-50m, but his value to us is probably closer to 70 or 80. If JWP and Ings both leave in one window we are done irrespective of who we bring in, that will be time to stop giving the club money and voting with our pockets, not that it will help anything.
Naaa. England squad member. PL captain. One of if not the most successful set piece taker in the PL last season. Entering peak age with 4 years left on his deal. In a world where Nathan Ake was £50m
As some one who has lived there, the countryside around Clent Hills is very lovely and affluent and not too far from Birmingham
