They've always been dickheads, Duggie. It's just that lately the majority have come out of hiding and decided to start liking football again. As usual, these have the most to say.
Interesting thing about Hamza Choudhry's loan move yesterday... he is one of a number of players whose contracts expire next summer... but there is an option that allows us to extend for a further 12 months ... apparently we exercised that option just before the loan deal was signed and inserted an option to buy at the end of the loan, allowing us to get a transfer fee ... Watford wanted that option ... so everyone's a winner ... Makes me wonder if we have the extension clause in those other contracts that extend next summer ... can't see why we wouldn't
Presumably that’s why your salary bill is such a high percentage of your turnover. No agent worth his salt is going to allow his player to sign a deal like that unless he is paid above the going rate for the original contract period. Its not in the player’s interest to have a non-mutual option to extend. Of course it could be tied to a salary increase in which case the player benefits as well, but means that Leicester are stuck with higher costs for the extension year. Doubt its as beneficial to the club as you are suggesting unless his agent is an idiot.
You’ll find that most contracts that have options to extend are for young players. Often down to the fact a club isn’t 100% convinced a young player is worthy of a 4 or 5 year deal and so a contract of 2 or 3 years is agreed with option to extend should the player impress. Players you’ll have paid significant fees for will likely have straight 4 or 5 year deals as clubs want to get guaranteed years out of their investments.
