Whilst messing about on this calculator with the larger than life keys, I came across this bit of football trivia relating to the Spurs football history.
I was already aware of the info but hadn't thought about finding it in print to post, anyway for your interest I have copied and pasted it below.

"Following the foundation of Spurs, Spurs first played in navy blue shirts. The club colours then varied from light blue and white halved jerseys, to red shirts and blue shorts, through chocolate brown and old gold and then finally, in the 1899-00 season, to white shirts and navy blue shorts as a tribute to Preston North End, the most successful team of the time."

So there you have it Northenders, and isn't it fitting that Spurs became the second team to win the Cup and League double, winning both competitions in the 1960-61 season, wearing the same team colours as PNE had all those years before.

    :)

    PNE V Sheffield United.

The club have confirmed that the above League fixture will go ahead on Saturday the 8th of October.

The game falls on the International weekend but neither club has received three or more call-ups, which would have triggered a postponement.

So then a top of the table clash in just over a weeks time at Deepdale to look forward to and a good gate more or less guaranteed..<ok>

Unsworth has commented that Keammar Daley was fantastic against Tranmere in the reserve fixture at Prenton Park, and at times was "sensational" particularly when playing behind the two strikers. He scored the two goals in the 1-2 win. Tranmere fielded a stong team with 7 first team players and PNE had a very youthful team out again. Daley is not quite match fit but played the full 90 minutes, Unsworth said that Daley is being tried in different positions and will cause opposition defences problems wherever he plays.

All good stuff for the club and the supporters.

Hume has been called up to play for his country so will NOT be available for the Sheffield United game at Deepdale. Unfortunately Keammar Daley has been called up to play for Jamaica as well, so Phil Brown will be looking at his options for the above game.
Replacement to replace Hume playing his team role OR a switch to 4 4 2 maybe ?????
More likely to opt for as little change as possible and just replace Hume, depending on how Northend perform at the O's today.

Play 442 Mellor, Procter up front, Parry, Coutts as wingers, simple solution, one more call up for us and the game will be off next week

    Todays Teams.

PNE: Arestidou, Gray, Carlisle, Hume, Coutts, Proctor, Nicholson, McLean, Parry, Alexander, Mellor.
Subs: Ashbee, Tsoumou, Smith, Mayor, Turner.

ORIENT: Butcher, Chorley, Cuthbert, Forbes, Cox, Dawson, Lisbie, McSweeney, Porter, Spring, Clarke.
Subs: Cureton, Laird, Cestor, Lovelock, Mooney.

As you can see Iain Turner is on the bench after recovering from a broken toe, indicating the manager's faith in young shot stopper Andreas Arestidou.

(more like Turner is not as yet 100% fit) but even so I think Arestidou would have kept his place for this game at least.

Manager Steve McClaren has resigned as manager at Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest, Chairman Nigel Doughty will also step down at he end of the season. This move followed today's home defeat at home to Birmingham, which has left Forest fourth bottom in the League. Nigel Doughty is also the owner of the club and will continue to support the club financially when he steps down. Forest have stated that they would begin the search for a new manager and chairman immediately.

Quite obviously Forest are now in deep trouble in terms of the running and management of the club, and will be seeking to rectify this as soon as possible, so who might the candidates be to replace Steve McClaren ??????......could be interesting perhaps...<laugh>

    News flash.

    Re Saturday's fixture at Deepdale.

    Sheffield United Game Postponed (Confirmed)
A late call-up to the Northern Ireland squad for Conor McLaughlin has caused the postponement of Saturday's game versus Sheffield United.

Conor joins Iain Hume and Keammar Daley in the international ranks for this weekend's action, with Adam Barton also in the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for their midweek fixture next Tuesday.

North End will now face the Blades at Deepdale on Wednesday 19th October at 7.45pm, with all tickets purchased for the original date still valid for this new date.

This postponed game could adversley affect fans who have made special arrangements to attend the game, hope that at this late stage those fans who have can change their arrangements....<ok>

Preston North End would like to congratulate striker Neil Mellor on being named npower League One Player of the month.

Only one way to answer your critics and Mellor has done that in style. Every credit for a player who seemed on his way out of PNE at the end of last season.
Manager Brown is one of the main reasons for Mellor's stay at Deepdale and for getting him to knuckle down and show what he is capable of doing. Mellor has lost a lot of weight and got himself fit, this is really paying dividends not only in his goals tally but also for the 100% effort he is putting into every game. Long may his goal scoring continue..<ok>

Hume getting injured is bad bad news finneyfan, he is one of the main driving forces in the team and will be sorely missed I fear. But it does give opportunities for other players or a change of formation as you correctly point out. Brown will have altenatives in mind knowing that our front players would suffer injury at some point..<ok>
