I think he sounded a bit more upbeat than mid week tbf, talking about dying to get the result first game of the season etc
If we are in a position where we can start Pritchard (probably unlikely tbf but even then Embledon was excellent today), Mcgeady, Evans, O’Nien, either Gooch or Daimond, Stewart and capable full backs then hopefully that’s enough for the first game, then you have til the end of august to bring in the rest, obviously still gonna be thin so hopefully can trickle some more in more towards the beginning of august rather than the latter stages
Think he was told off by the club. We've seen head coaches have friction with dof's before and it didn't end well for either. I hope thats not the case here and LJ gets the players he's agreed to asap so that we can be strong from the first game.
That would be correct. Not enough and simply not good enough. Wigan will fancy their chances big time coming up here first game.
It’s not going to go down well if in 2 weeks power swings a cross in and Wyke scores. The atmosphere will be toss. I am just holding on in hope these are quality players. The word ‘affordable’ regularly used by LJ. Guessing to dampen expectations. I’ve always said I’ll judge ownership, new staff at the end of the window but up to now it’s a 6 out of 10.
I agree. So far the signings whilst looking good aren't anything we couldn't have signed in the last 3 seasons. We wanted to see a complete change in transfer policy. The kid at Exeter would be a start to that end however its up in the air and who knows what'll happen. He could sign tomorrow or stay in league 2. After the last 5 years we've had I think we need to get off to a flyer as supporters patience in the main could be coming to an end and as other posters have said if we don't beat Wigan it'll be a flash point. Hears hoping we at least sort the defence out and get another Striker before then.
Pritchard has made it pretty clear Johnson was key in him signing. Cant believe a player like him signs for Parky. I also reckon City have been reassured by how we will play and allow the lad to come. Again we are a very different prospect for players under this manager.
This is in no way being negative here, but I've seen alot of "these have signed this one and these have signed that one, we should be in for this one" etc and I agree. However, one thing that has and continues to be our unfortunate down fall is Geography. Waaaayyyyyy up here in the distance north.
Some players are ignorant also, was it Kevin Phillips who said he didn’t even know Sunderland was on the coast
it’s not just players to be honest. Having never lived in the north east and grown up in Hertfordshire, I reckon if you did a poll here of 100 random people maybe 15 of them might know where Sunderland is. And even then the answer would probably be “somewhere near Newcastle”. The location is definitely a problem. Not the area. The area is beautiful and fantastic. The people are friendly. But it’s just such a long way from anywhere else. I’d imagine the likes of Plymouth suffer for similar reasons.
I've lived in Hertfordshire for the last 17 years, just moved to Essex, and that is almost certainly true. But its not just the NE, many people don't really have any clear idea of the geography of the country north of about Bedford. And anywhere north of about Nottingham might as well be marked with "here be beasts" on the map.
