I just wouldn't begrudge him a chance to play for what is essentially his hometown club in a division higher than us.
Be unhappy of he didn't join at least a decent sized club who could go up to prem. Hoping he stays and plays in midfield next season.
Have you seen this? https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...ing-owner-kyril-louis-dreyfus-backing-3251094
i may be missing something but it so far seems we are 'eying up' a lot of div 4 players, maybe they can make the minor step up to div 3 but are they really 'long term'? i would have thought the club would have one eye on at least getting a hard core of players that they believe can handle the championship, mixed with players almost guaranteed to get us out of this one.
Is Luke O’Nien actually that good. Yes he puts the effort in, but I for one wouldn’t give a jot if he went, as long as the replacement was/will be better. Bart
No I don't, but I think KLD has spent to much attention to detail on his back room staff and recruitment team to allow Johnson to be involved in transfer decisions. From what I've heard and no I'm not ITK at all just hear little bits the only real say is if they were to select a player Johnson wouldn't play there would be no point signing him. However the recruitment team will be finding the players. We've also got to remember they signed Johnson so are obviously on the same wave length about how they want to play. Poyet was actually first choice and was all set to sign but wanted control of transfers. He thought they wanted him no matter what, but it seems they had their mind set on the way they wanted the club run and whoever came in had to fit in to that. Johnson is the Head coach cog in the machine so I wouldn't worry to much about him having control of transfers. Any wolfy mate do you think we should sign a new keeper or have you warmed to burge yet
Two on there that are currently playing League 2, Otis Khan and Carlos Mendes Gomes, are probably long term investments due to their age. I'm not so sure about the others. I don't really think the level they're currently playing at is an indicator of how successful a player is going to be. Look at Jamie Vardy. Mendes Gomes went to Morecambe from a Step 5 club and now League 1 and Championship clubs are looking at him. I'd be happy for us to be bringing in players from non-league if they've got the right attributes. There's a lot of good players down there.
true, but from past experiences out of the entire league there tends to be one 'jamie vardy' every few years...much the same as keegan came from lower leagues to liverpool all them years ago and how many in between? i have no problem building for the future, more so if we are looking to 'buy cheap, promote, sell on at nice profit' but not just looking at that posted list but various rumours on several platforms seem to have a lot of div 4 players mentioned, i may be jumping the gun a bit if honest but i really want to see a couple of more seasoned pro's in there for the experience. probably will be out of our league in respect of wages etc and we have been down that route a few times but i see wilshire is unsure of what he is doing next, a bit like leadbitter he would bring a balance to a midfield...although again, if i am honest i never rated him that highly anyway, but must be a few of his type dotting around.
Out of interest, who on the retained list, including those who we are offering a contract to will be on big money, by League 1 standards? Grigg McGeady Wyke, was probably given a good deal when he signed Anybody else? we might actually have some headroom to invest in decent players this summer.
He'll be involved at the beginning and end of the process as a minimum, I'd guess. Identifying the attributes he wants to the recruitment team, then making the final decision on the options presented to him. Crackers to think any manager would work with no input into the players who would cost him his job imho.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I wouldn't cry buckets if he or any of them left. We've never seen him in his Natural position of a box to box midfielder. Problem with "versatile" or "utility" players, they become and Jack of all trades and a master of none. He isn't a CB or a RB yet we insist on playing him there etc.
We should just go crackers and pay the fine at the end of the season. Be interesting to see the plans for Will Grigg.
What formation were other teams playing when Will Grigg was scoring? If he happens to fit the plan, maybe he stays?
Interesting in what way? We need a buyer ASAP. He’s done at SAFC. Never wanted to be here in the first place. He’s been a joke whilst employed here.
Looks like mk dons want him. Whether they can afford him is another matter. Wouldn't be surprised to see another loan if not a free for him.
Give him a hot-dog stand at home matches. Only buns, nee sausages..... to match his performances for us
