I really don’t see the point signing another wide man when there’s other positions we desperately need cover or improvement in. We’ve got KLP, Wilks, Scott, Mayer, Longman, Williams and even Moncur that can all play on the wings in a 4-3-3. More than enough imo. We’re lacking in central midfielders and centre-forwards.

We need an experienced centre half.

Versatility is the key though. It could be a central midfielder, but then you've got Doc, Honeyman, Jones, Moncur, Smallwood, Cannon, and Green competing for those spaces. A forward would be good, but an outright striker will be hard to come by at this level unless we pull one out the bag.

HDM article about Scott mentioned we’re close to signing a highly-rated youngster from Man City on loan. Hope it’s Doyle.

I think it might be Morgan Rogers. Was at Lincoln last season.

Green is unlikely to be in contention, and jones seems primarily to be regarded as a centre-back option. So it seems to be only smallwood as the holding mid, doc, cannon, moncur for the other starting berths until George is fit again. Thats looking a bit light for the first couple of months of the season IMO.

I suspect Longman may be used to give a different option through the middle alongside Magennis and Eaves.

Im sure Greame Souness is still class on the ball - its what he's like chasing the ball, covering defensively without the ball which would concern me.

If we do offer him a deal, id expect him to be used sparingly - perhaps later in games when the opposition tires.

If we did sign Tom, I would expect him to play a significant role, especially when we may be under the cosh and needing to retain the ball, not withstanding what else he may bring to the club in terms of experience and guidance of our very young squad.

Basically theres more to championship level football than passing ability and theres a reason hes been without a club for 18 months. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Guidance is one thing. Being able to withstand a high press for 90 mins is another.

Tom is a class act and has shown it in the pre-season games and GM has also spoken highly about his impact on the young players.
Normally when you speak gibberish you get away with it as it on a Friday or Saturday evening so I assume you’ve had a drink.
