It was announced as loan with a view to a permanent, pretty much as though the permanent was a term of the loan, so either we were just happy to get him out the door, or they agreed a small fee to guarantee we didn't trigger another year.
Hull City's loan players - Gavin Whyte , Dan Crowley and Regan Slater have now returned to their parent clubs. I would be happy to see Whyte and Slater back again in the team next year. Slater really grew into the holding midfield role when he was given a decent run in the team.
I don't know whether we had any real interest in this guy, but it seems this last season he hasn't fulled up any trees. However, this could be the manager playing down his performance in order to keep him at the club. Exeter are preparing for another year in League Two after missing out on a play-off finish this season, finishing three points off seventh. The Grecians may lose a couple of key players this summer, with Jake Taylor and Randell Williams both expected to leave despite being offered new contracts by the club. Williams caught the eye last season, registering 14 assists in League Two before the campaign was curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The winger attracted interest from the likes of Preston North End, Barnsley and Stoke City, but remained at St. James’ Park. Hull City are also believed to have had a bid turned down for his signature. The 24-year-old, who has scored four goals and added two assists in 29 league appearances this term, is now expected to leave Exeter this summer. Matt Taylor said: “He turned down opportunities to sign for top League One clubs at that time. He wanted to run down his contract and believed there were better opportunities for him. “Unfortunately his game has struggled due to whatever reason. At no stage this season has he been able to find any form in his game. He’s not hit those heights, I’m afraid. “We wish him the best in what he chooses to do.” The Verdict Taylor is spot on. Williams has gone off the boil and hasn’t been able to replicate last season’s performances at all. Fair play to him for wanting to prove himself in League Two for another year, but it is a risk which hasn’t paid off unfortunately. I still think someone in League One would take a chance on him, but the likes of Barnsley, Hull and Preston’s attentions are likely to have turned to other targets due to the seasons they have had https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/p...-as-efl-boss-comments-on-24-year-olds-future/
Strange one tbf .. at one point first on the team sheet .. but at the point of leaving his confidence had gone .. wish him.well though.
Jordy was disappointing - certainly on his day our best centre back, but always a mistake waiting to happen - seemed to lose it at the end of last season - don't know whether he fell out with McCann or just lost the will to fight for the cause - either way a move was the right decision
Hakeeb Adelakun has been released by Bristol City, be surprised if we're not talking to him (unless there's a deal for Whyte on the cards). They're released a lot of players - Hakeeb Adelakun, Nathan Baker, Famara Diédhiou, Rene Gilmartin, Jack Hunt, Henri Lansbury, Adrian Mariappa, Jamie Paterson, Tommy Rowe, Liam Walsh, Marley Watkins - I suspect we'll see a lot of this in the next couple of weeks.
Lansbury has always been a tidy player but has always seemed to flatter to deceive .. seems to have been around forever but see he is still only 30yrs old.
Thankfully, we may be in a position where we hold the bargaining tools when looking to sign... more a player desperate to play for us, than we're desperate to have him play for us...
I didn't realise Adelakun was entitled to a league 1 winners medal as he played enough games for us during his loan spell!
