Or limit the amount of times a player can be loaned out under the age of 23, maybe 2 seasons max - that would sharp stop it.
I would look at it a different way, because Matete and ONien dont seem to be in the first 11. If it James Garner instead of Dan Neil I would say no to that personally. I am not saying Dan Neil is a better player at this stage in their respective careers but to us as a club he is so much more valuable. We have invested so much into his development already, he is getting international recognition and is scouted by prem clubs. He is also a poster boy for out pathway, which goes a long way to helping the club attract the best youngsters to its academy. I would rather see Neil playing, and learning and becoming the player I think he can be, than have him benched in favour of somebody else who maybe a year ahead in their development. If a prem club want to loan us an u23 lad, who is an upgrade on a squad player like ONien, but with no demands on game time, then I would go for that. All about opinions mate. I do a lot of coaching and I see a lot of challenges around pathways when lads get to 18, 19 and 20.
We paid 4m for Thome. The suggestion was there was an add on at 50 games but I think he’d only actually made 44 appearances so I’m not sure that was ever really true? He’d been injured a lot.
Julio, been thinking this all day looking at this thread. sometimes it's nunez sometimes it's julio. love julio
I totally see your point and agree that prioritising the development of our own players has to the the priority. Loaning players in can be part of that plan and approach though. I actually think loaning a CM in could help the development of Neil and Matete. It’ll stop Neil being run on to the ground like last season but, knowing Evans won’t play every game, won’t stop him getting the required game time. It would also mean Matete could be loaned for League 1, even if just until January, which would add more value. As long as each player gets the opportunity that is right for them then great. When talking about loans everyone naturally focuses on loans of young players from the Premier League. I wouldn’t mind loans a couple of older players as opposed to just youngsters. I would have loved Mowatt who signed for a Boro. I’d take someone like Callum Robinson as an option up front and outwide.
I thought they were to introduce a limit to how many players could be sent on loan, to stop likes of Chelsea having 3 sides woeth of players out. seem to remember 8 loans being mentioned.....or did they just talk about it...then have it quashed by the big clubs
Wasn’t exactly quashed, premier league clubs are now only allowed to loan out eight players but it doesn’t apply to U21’s or home grown players so actually a club like Chelsea could still probably loan 20 players out. I think the a fee being chargeable for loans should be forbidden so the only reason to loan out is development rather than financial gain or to get some wages off the wage bill. If you don’t want a player sell them or terminate their contract in a lawful manner.
Good post mate. I've never been able to understand why the reserve team system has been apparently superceded. In my day, there was a reserve league....I went down to RP many a time as a boy when the first team was away to watch the reserves.... we used to get quite good crowds. The side included first team squad players who needed games, maybe coming back from injury...and younger lads looking to give an account of themselves. It seemed to work. The only loan I can really understand is a goalie.....first choice two are injured....need to do something. However, that said,I remember the first time Derek Forster turned out for us!
Sounds like one we have tied up to a long contract in the hope we can cash in if he does well. Can’t imagine he will be on big bucks so well worth a gamble, may end up with a huge win for a small bet.
Cheers mate, appreciate the detail as didnt know where it was left. So basically in my opinion...they have made an arse of this too, far to complicated if they leave it as loaning out 8 players full stop it stops clubs hording kids....& forces them if they have loads to introduce into their own side
Apparently it wasn’t we didn’t have it, it was we were relegated anyway and didn’t want to piss what we had up the wall. He went on a free to Bolton didn’t he? I used to live on same estate as him and Julio used to see them regularly, seemed like nice lads.
I made the same mistake over the road, always assumed it was more South America to be fair. Same with Mexico.
AN's stock is very high right now, I would imagine any club looking for a new manager certainly in the championship and lower half of the Premier would be casting an eye...also, he's only on a one year rolling contract, so hopefully the club fully supports this guy...the best manager we have had for many years
