Wallace I think you mean Willock and you forgot Thomas at the start. Only disappoint ment for me Masterson has to stay on bench and not go out on loan and we have 3 goalies
Something tells me Masterson will get his fair share of game time. Not long until January window anyway, so could still get him a loan then.
Agree completely Beth. This was one of those instances where you knew that a full season of playing time would improve an already good quality player. I hope he does get a good run of games, and confidence, this season.
Swansea is a step up though. Not a huge one but it is. The kid is made for life from this contract if he invests it sensibly.
I like Manning as a player and it's a shame we couldn't keep him, but If Swansea are going to pay him substantially more than we can, I say good luck to him. Who wouldn't want to get paid as much they can for their efforts?
Manning was almost deemed the messiah on here two years ago. How things change. He didn’t reach his potential with us and I wonder if that’s because he was often played out of place. If so, I can understand why he would want to go. Footballers do have a short earning window. I don’t really get the negativity about Bidwell. He was reliable, played week in and week out and we have had far, far worse players. Strange how some players seems to attract such often underserved negativity. The crowd were also often vile to Karl Henry, on his back the moment he walked on the pitch. To my recollection he wasn’t so bad he deserved such continuous derision. I save the dislike for the money grabbers, SWP, Caesar, Granero, Park etc and that useless club destroyer that’s Mark Hughes.
It’s a different criticism though. Bidwell and Henry were just ****. Not their fault for getting picked but they were.
Bidwell was not shiiiite. He was solid, stable reliable..and very well paid as he came in when we could afford good contracts. That is why he had to go. Henry was also well paid for the same reason...but he was not solid and stable..but gave his all...which was sometimes good and sometimes awful. We could not afford to pay what we paid them now
Henry was one of those that stopped the opposition from playing. Manning, wish him well at Swansea - not sure it was the move he really wanted, I suspect it was the hamsters however that move didn't happen. The one thing that does surprise me, is that the club has rarely stopped anyone from moving onto a bigger club. Take Eze for example, we took him on a free from Millwall, and help tease out the skills, teach him the benefits of reading the game and let him leave on a big transfer to a club which will help further his career (in Eze's situation, I think that Hodgson and Zaha were drivers for this move). I think Manning should have signed an extension and aimed higher than Swansea.
Excellent post Ninj. I am sure Manning wanted and expected something better. But on deadline day, after we accepted the bid, ( which I suspect is a bit higher than quoted) he had to go. (Cut off his nose to spite his face etc etc..) Yes they sold Rondon but on deadline day they bought 2 other defenders and a midfielder. So competition is going to be stiff for a team place there. I think he made a mistake...but hey ho...I am biased and don't really know the details I would have preferred to stay and possibly grow with the team or take the Eze route in 6 months or so. Now let's see what happens to BOS?
Eze! With Manning it feels like a failure by all involved. He did make chances with that left foot of his and scored goals, one in each of his last 3 games if I remember right, and looked to be played out of position at left back. Surely football wise he was worth keeping for the season for £250 K + wages. But then when I remember him barely make an effort to get back and defend sometimes, and how he frequently acted like his leg had been cut off after a tackle, but ran around unhindered 2 minutes later, maybe showed he didnt want to really defend or work for us, and we are right to let him go.
I somehow think maybe he had outgrown his EGO, clearly thought he was better than he actually was, but hey ho come the Swansea game hopefully we really give them a good spanking and teach the ungrateful sod that the grass isn’t always greener south west of the Welsh valleys
Any chance of a link to that article or interview where he says that? I keep reading people saying he "didn't want to play for the club". Any proof that he said such things?????
