Ok, with our Premier League status secured and our record transfer budget available, we're going to be linked to far more than a new squad's-worth of players this summer. So to keep all the rumours in one place, I was thinking it'd be a good idea if all rumours got discussed in one place, so we don't have a new thread for every tiny rumour which would clutter the board up for those who don't care for speculation. If people fancy it, between us mods we can take a leaf out of Hampy's book, and keep this first post updated as a long list of all the rumours. Confirmed Signings: ST | Ricky Van Wolfswinkel (Sporting Lisbon) - £8.5m ST | Gary Hooper (Celtic) - £5m DM | Leroy Fer (FC Twente) - £4.5m LB | Javier Garrido (Lazio) - Undisclosed Fee (1.32m?) Thanks for setting this up, DH. It's going to be a long barren summer. A bit of transfer gossip will keep us all going until August.
good idea DH. outgoing rumours we've also had had Bradley Johnson to Swansea, Anthony Pilkington to Stoke, Russell Martin to the Villa and James Vaughn to Huddersfield,
Don't forget the perennial Ruddy to Arsenal rumour that's been cropping up since we confirmed survival last season
According to my Brentford supporting mate, Adeyemi to Brentford is definitely on the cards regardless of which league they end up in, he's very popular there

Can't see Pilkington, Johnson or Russell Martin leaving as we won't be struggling for money next season. Other than the money involved, is there any reason why they could leave i.e. out of contact etc?
I suppose that the departures of any of our first team would be dependent on CH being confident of signing someone better. Of the three you list it would be a shame to lose BJ as he has been terrific this season and improved and I see no reason why this couldn't continue next season. I would be loathe to lose Rusty as he is such a versatile player and has never let us down and is supposed to be one of the leaders in the changing room. Pilks to Stoke I could see happening as they are desparate for a winger and we have Benno in reserve with the prospect of brining in another winger for some competition. We could also see some problems with existing players wanting a pay rise knowing how much cash staying up will generate the club. I don't see many of our other players excepting than Ruddy and Snod being of interest to other Premiership level clubs although I can see any number of our fringe players heading down to the Championship.
i wasn't suggesting we would want to lose any of them cityslicker. we need to keep all 3, regardless of improvements coming in - we basically need to drastically improve the overall squad quality, not just the first team. I think Pilkington could be a great asset next season for us
Yeah, we really want to be turning some players in our current starting XI into bench/squad options, with the new players coming in to be first choice, and those currently not getting a look in being sold to the championship. It's not as straightforward as that, but it's a general principle.
I'll be honest, I'm expecting a bid of some description for Bassong before the new season starts. I don't think he'll want to leave or that we'll sell him, but I can see a bid coming in from someone
Bassong has not quite cut it at either Spurs or Newcastle who are, given our current status as Premier League regulars (!) are the next stage up from us. He won't be deemed good enough by any of the top teams and unless he is offered a huge pile of cash why would he choose to leave us for the likes of Stoke/Fulham? I can't see where a bid would come from given that he has a fair amount left on his contract and so would not go cheaply plus he seems to be genuinely happy to be a valued first teamer here.
Bassong cut it at Newcastle. He won player of the season in his first season which than resulted in him signing for Spurs. Also at Spurs he was never really given a long stretch of games there, he was always centreback number 3 there.
I agree we are unlikely to sell, but to clarify Bassong did "cut it" at Newcastle - he won PoS in their relegation year and then got sold to Spurs. So the only teams I can see being in for him are those chasing Europa League (as you say, Tottenham plus won't be interested).
i'm not sure that we will go back in for Hooper after being messed about in January. there are better prospects for the same sort of money on the continent. would love to see vanGinkel signed up though.
I'm pretty sure McNally denied rumours of any approach on twitter, but whether that was then (March), and we're interested again now, I don't know. I can't find any recent press on it though.
Great idea DH, and superbly laid out - a big thank you. I think this is going to be a very busy thread over the next 3 months!
Brilliant thread. In the wake of the youth cup final win, can we also speculate on whether any of our youngsters will break into the first team? I predict both Murphys to appear in our first League Cup match
