Sunderland host Wigan Athletic at the Stadium of Light in the SkyBet League One Last time out Sunderland drew with Burton and Wigan lost to Lincoln. Caretaker boss Andrew Taylor will be without top scorer Charlie Wyke and right wingback Luke O’Nien due to injuries suffered against Burton, two more additions to the growing injury list for the Black Cats. Sunderland are 7th in the league with 24 points and are in the middle of a potential takeover of the football club. The Latics were placed into administration on 1st July and the subsequent 12-point deduction saw them relegated from the Championship on the final day of the 2019-20 season. They have since had to sell a number of players and seen two managers, Paul Cook and John Sheridan, leave. They are currently managerless and bottom of the third tier with just two league wins all season. Andrew Taylor: “We’ve had a lot of possession again, plenty of shots on goal – not as many on target as we would like. The goal conceded we know it’s a mistake, we have to move on from that.” “We were comfortable really, yes we haven’t necessarily created a great deal but they defended well, got everyone behind the ball. The lads were great, they kept going with everything that’s going on, kept going and got the goal.” “I thought we might have a chance to go on and nick a winner, which wasn’t to be but it was a good reaction from everyone and we have to move on to Saturday” Leam Richardson: “I thought we matched a very good side for large parts, we offered a threat with Kal Naismith coming back up front. Given the performance, do we deserve a result from that? I think we do, yes.” "We've been undone by a set-piece that was soft, and an individual mistake at the end. While we don't accept losing, we accept putting in a performance like that. Could anyone have given the shirt any more? No, I don't think they could." "Only the result dampens a very good performance. We're not hiding from the league position and the results we're having. We know there are other things going on around the club that have been spoken about a lot. All we can do is send lads out there who will do the shirt proud, and I think they're certainly doing that." Well so much for the new manager bounce - but I suppose there was little preparation time before the Burton game. I see this is a must win game - we just can't afford to drop any points against the bottom team. Hopefully we will see a more attacking formation from the start, all out attack first half, 3 nil up then rest 5 players at half-time I've put Grigg up front because he and Power are due a couple of goals against their old team. I’m going for a 3-0 win. Live stream £10 https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/live-video Ha’way the Lads
Liking the 4-3-3 there, much more of an attacking formation. I'd probably go for Sanderson at right back and one of Flanno or McLaughlin at centre half instead. Home win, 2-0.
Wigan played Barnet in the cup last week didnt they? A few bad tackles were thrown and I heard things got a bit hairy.
RTB Voted home win of course. However Wyke and 09 out? Same formation, who knows.. Free to watch i suppose... More torture... Its as bad as waiting for the takeover/investment or DoF/Manager The Sunderland way as they say.
mcGeady to come back for maybe 20 mins on Saturday, any sort of win will do, we are due a clean sheet as well, i reckon we will get a penalty and there will be a few cards, because of the situation. picked up my £40 win on 2-1 Sunderland against Ipswich i finally win a bet !, but not betting on us this time i might put the mockers on us.
They lost at home to Chorley in the FA Cup, they were 2-0 up and cruising but lost 2-3 in extra time. Long was sent off.
Going for a very uninspired 1-0 to us - an OG from our 17th corner of the game. We will be hanging on at the end and they will be denied a stonewall penna in injury time. 28 shots of which 2 are on target.
Grigg to start for me, against his old club. Could be the incentive he needs to get goal. Tbf though this only usually happens when it’s against us so I wouldn’t count on it.
1-1 draw for me. I'd play: GK Patterson RB McLaughlin CB Sanderson CB Wright LB Macfadzean RW Diamond CM Scowen CM Power LW Hume AM Embleton ST Grigg
I think that following tomorrow's big announcement on the ownership and manager (cough) the lads will put in a magnificent performance, winning 4-0 after a Will Grigg hat trick. You heard it here first
Thanks again RTB for another great effort, your team, bench, and injured list, shows what a decent squad we have, run properly it would never have got to this sorry state of affairs. Last Sunday was a start in the right direction off field, and if, big if, Taylor puts out a line up such as you suggest we might just begin to see some movement on-field. We live in hope.
Not a bad team but Leaddy ahead of Power for me, though its a good shout, as is RTB's. If only the twits running the club were listening we would not be in this current disastrous run imo. .
Ordinarily I'd have Grant in but just think he needs a rest. I'd be having Curry on the bench as well. And the sub keeper would be whoever Pattersons deputy for the u23s is. Not convinced by burge or Mathews one bit.
