the result is flattering ..but that is old UTD of SAF era tactically , Jose get it wrong .... we should had played much more wider .. we were just to easy to defend against trying to attack through the middle luckily we have too many tall players, to break the lock we should had played with 3 CBs at back and freed our fullbacks to give us more width
Possession stats are the most misleading figures around to judge whether a team deserved a win or not. Last season and during the LVG years when we were "dominating" the so called minnows and drawing 0-0 , our possession stats were in the 70% + and very often >75%. Now with us having a greater cutting edge we have only possession of 55% and 58%. Like Arsenal showed yesterday, a possession of 78% means **** all. Probably just showed that Arsenal didn't have enough to get into the penalty area and were only passing it around in the middle to find an opening.
Even in these first two games I can see the need for a decent left winger. There is a clear 'disconnect' between Blind/Darmian and the midfield/attack as neither are confident ball carriers, the result being that too often the left side of midfield has to take the ball from too deep a position creating an imbalance between the attacking tempo between the left wing and right where Valencia is clearly happy to bomb up and down the line and pump in crosses. We are not getting that from Blind or Darmian and more often than not Pogba/Rashford/Martial have to collect the ball themselves, so creating the imbalance. Perisic has to be the answer, and while JM seems content with the squad we have, I see the left wing as our weak spot.
Most important point from the game - Anthony Martial actually smiled - somewhere there is actual photographic proof.
