Swansea City v Middlesbrough Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 23 April 2022 Kick off - 3:00pm Following their exciting but ultimately disappointing 4-4 at Reading, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a home match against Play Off hopefuls Middlesbrough. On Easter Monday, Reading produced an incredible comeback from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 with the Swans and, in the process, relegated ‘Wayne Rooney’s Derby County’. A frenetic start saw Lucas Joao put the hosts ahead with a contentious penalty, before Hannes Wolf fired home to level and Joel Piroe curled home beautifully. Piroe added his second with a penalty - the Swans’ first in over a year - and Michael Obafemi grabbed a fourth goal as Swansea were cruising. Tom Ince's volley and a second for Joao made it 4-3, before Tom McIntyre scored deep into stoppage time. The thrilling draw in one of the most entertaining games of the season so far, as well as relegating Derby County (who lost to QPR) it also put both Barnsley and Peterborough United on the brink of going down. Whilst the Swans were drawing at Reading, Middlesbrough were losing at home to Play Off rivals Huddersfield, thereby severely denting their promotion hopes. Naby Sarr opened the scoring for the visitors just before half-time, nodding home Jordan Rhodes' header across goal following a Sorba Thomas wide free-kick. And Rhodes rounded off the win against his old club with a composed finished on the counter-attack on the hour mark having been played through by Lewis O'Brien. Boro came closest in the 88th minute when Riley McGree struck the underside of the crossbar, but were otherwise toothless in attack. The loss saw the Boro's torrid recent Championship form continue. Boro have now failed to win any of their past four, losing three games in that stretch. A win would have seen them return to the top six on goal difference. Instead, they stay just outside the play-offs, 3 points behind Sheffield United in sixth but having played one game fewer. The Swans have played Boro on 51 previous occasions, winning 19, losing 21 and drawing 11. In the corresponding match last season, the Swans ran out 2-1 winners thanks to a late Andre Ayew winner: Turning to Saturday, Boro will be determined to put their bad run of form behind them and try and get their Play Off hopes back on track, whilst the Swans will be keen to forget the second half performance at Reading. Whilst I think that the Swans can maintain their recent unbeaten 7 match run, I have a feeling that Middlesbrough will run out 2-1 winners
Thanks Taff. Not usually a happy hunting ground for us but surely we will not see a repeat of that 2nd half performance against Reading. If we play like we did in the 1st half it's a 1-1 for me.
Thanks Taff, hoping for a positive response from the team RM puts out and gives us a chance to smile unlike last Monday 2hen it felt like a defeat coming home....
I’m heading down for this one unexpectedly. Daughters uni mate now working for the Swans doing the video stuff, saw him on Monday and he messaged her with an offer of free tickets, so why not. So I’m going with the attacking flare from Monday and we come out tops 3-1 winners.

Ryan Manning comes into the Swansea City starting line-up as Russell Martin makes one change for this afternoon’s meeting with Middlesbrough. Manning will feature at left wing-back, with Hannes Wolf pushed forward into an attacking midfield role, as Jamie Paterson misses out through injury. The Swans are otherwise unchanged from the draw against Reading, with Andy Fisher in goal and Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton and Joel Latibeaudiere making up the back three. Manning and Cyrus Christie will operate from the flanks, with Flynn Downes and skipper Matt Grimes paired together in midfield. Wolf, Joel Piroe and Michael Obafemi make up Swansea’s attacking triumvirate.
