Some perspective here. 25 years ago we signed Alan Shearer for 15m. Our transfer budget is less than that today. FFS!
It definitely feels like this takeover is in its death throes...but who knows what is going on behind the scene? This whole palaver has been appalling and the supporters have been treated disgracefully. In which other business could a deal be blocked where you have an active buyer with a history of investing in a vast array of industries, an actively willing seller and a hugely supporting customer base? No reasons given, just stall, obfuscate, delay, deflect, obstruct, impede. Disgusting.
The thing that interests me about the CAT case, and I’m not even sure if it will be mentioned/is able to be mentioned by NUFC - but surely there’s an argument that the O & D test itself is anti competitive? also, there must be a legal route to go down whereby the PL’s authority can be challenged, I mean, do they really have the right to block a transaction of £300 million that the buyer and seller have agreed to?
And that is perfectly legal under UK law. They are effectively positioning themselves as a higher authority than the courts.
I doubt that I'd say both sides have a good chance of winning otherwise it would'nt have got this far. Talking many millions, so it's not just smoke and mirrors its real.
I'll bet anyone on here a tidy sum of money that Ashley will be taking Staveley to court at some point in the near future.
