Maybe I am completely missing the point, but surely it makes absolute sense for your best penalty taker to go last? As this shoot out (and England Italy for that matter) have proved, Missing first doesnt mean you have lost - the earlier you miss the easier it is to repair. By that logic you would want your most certain, confident penalty takers to be 5, then 4, then 3? Ronaldo got a lot of stick for wanting to be number 5 tonight - those players who missed would still have had to take a penalty, and the further down the list you are the more pressure you are under. So by all likelihood they would have missed anyway!
If Ronaldo scores instead of Alves missing then there's more pressure on Fabregas and he's more likely to miss.

Best penalty taker should be 4th really, since that's usually one of the most crucial as it was here, and for England.
Best penalty takers should be 3/4th, they will almost always take one and may well need to to keep them in it or win. Although every penalty is worth the same, stupid putting the man who is supposedly your best pen taker 5th as often they don't even take one. Agree he was probably there for the glory.
