http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/police-force-open-gate-blocking-592264 Obviously the security experts don't think terrorists will be as agile or determined as Hull fairgoers like Nick and his daughter.
Until they do that, if indeed they do plan to do it, there's **** all point in locking a single gate, is there?
Weird statement this. So the council have been sly and got the police etc to open it, nah nah we can open it. But then say it's going to be shut now anyway. So instead of just sticking a copper at the other end telling people it's closed they got the gates opened. But now will stick a copper at the other end saying it's closed you can't come this way. That's the labour council for you. Joint statement from Hull City Council and Humberside Police Hull: Public safety concerns at Hull Fair 7 Oct 2017 Due to public safety concerns this evening (6 October 2017) at Hull Fair, security chains on a gate which allowed access to Argyle Street had to be cut to allow the gate to be opened. This was because a number of members of the public had tried to access the gate on their way into and from the fair, but were unable to as it was locked. There were attempts by some individuals to climb over and around the gate. A multi-agency decision to open the gate was taken by Hull City Council, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Humberside Police to ensure that the safety of the public was protected. No injuries were reported. The gate was opened until 11.00pm to allow people through. It did not sustain any damage during the operation. Measures are now in place to secure the gate which will remain closed for the duration of the fair.
Only the Allams could install a security gate that requires a policeman or woman to protect it from young families climbing over it.
Which is why there must be a gate at each entrance (if the walkway is to be closed). Having just one gate at the stadium side is in itself a safety issue for the reasons above.
Does anyone know why various people, intelligence services, Pete Curry, consider the KCOM to be the only target for terrorists given that no others are blocking off approach ways?
So, let me get this straight; So, an idiot in the USA gets about 400lbs of equipment up 30 floors, Sets up a concealed sniper nest, Disarms fire alarms and other security systems in place (at a casino) Removed a window that's of hurricane proof glass, Then for 10 minutes reigned in aimed firepower, All with no training whatsoever, hmmmm...... then I hardly think the Allam's gate is going to provide much of a deterrent to any potential terrorists. (No disrespect meant to the innocent victims of the above, RIP.)
Interesting idea. The Allams would have to ask the Council to open their gate on match days. If the Council refused everyone would have to walk round. This farce could go on and on.
But how high did they say the gate had to be? Seems the Allams put in planning permission for one height and then reduced the height of the gate so they could withdraw the planning application. Perhaps the anti-terrorist unit made a mistake initially. I wonder if after some young families clambered over it they have had a rethink and will be telling the Allams the gate needs to be higher.
At least people in the Hull area have a sense of humour thankfully, unlike the Allams appear to have.
The bridge and walkway to it are council owned. It has nothing to do with the SMC. Which is probably why it is awash with rubbish.
Did a councilor really put this rubbish. No ****ing wonder this city's been held back for years. 10 hours ago ColinInglis Both the Council and now the Police have told the SMC that the gate must be open. Sticking a laminated piece of paper on it disclaiming responsibility will do them no good if there is an incident and someone is hurt or heaven forbid someone dies there. Corporate Manslaughter charges would not be out of the question in such circumstances, even Police officers have faced such a prospect now when criminal negligence has been suspected. In this matter it would not even be "negligence" but completely deliberately putting the safety of the public at risk after having been warned against it by all the relevant public authorities. Quite clearly the Police must save the SMC from its own folly and keep the gate open until the Council determines a legal route to assume control of the Stadium itself.
