Goonz have actually had a pretty good season ... unfortunately it will be remembered for bottling what seemed like an unassailable lead ... plenty to build on but you can't help feeling they have blown their best opportunity since 2015/16 and that the likes of United, Chelsea and Citeh further strengthening in the summer will make next season much tougher for them to finish in the top 2, let alone win the thing ...
They had a great run for a young (ish) team but to drop 15 points in 8 games is just not possible if you want to keep up with/compete against City.
The way in which we crumbled when the title was there for the taking is galling. But looking at the season objectively, we’ve surpassed our expectations. The target was top 4 and to get back into the champions league, we’ve done that and we challenged City for the league. In most seasons 81+ points would be enough to win it. But the bar set by City now means you need a near perfect season to win it. As a bonus we also whooped Spurs home and away and regained our rightful place above them. But the key is to build on it, and for any club that wants to challenge for the league, there is the near insurmountable problem of being better than Man City, who like Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool will also strengthen in the summer.
This hasn't been the case since 2002. United managed it with 80pts in 10/11 and Leicester with 81pts in 15/16, otherwise that benchmark is a relic of the pre-dirty money era matey. The bar has been raised, possibly irreversibly.
Not sure it's all down to dirty money mate, Liverpool have kept pace with City over the last few years and even beaten them once all in the high 90 point bracket. I tend to think it's down to a wider gap between top and bottom teams quality wise that's leading to a higher points total for the very top.
Hmmm.... how much did VVD, Alison, Mane, Nabby Savage and Co cost? ... hardly shopping at the footballing Lidl was it?
To be peddling an agenda that the dirty money clubs haven’t influenced the league due to dirty money and that should just be a secondary thought, is laughable. Its not all down to that but it’s a very good starting point
lol 'pre-dirty money', one of the reasons the football league started was because everyone was bent. All the teams in the league have had a sugar daddy somewhere down the line.
