It is, as I suspected, that Saints are continuously updating player and manager profiles. Quite a few on here may share my opinion that VVD is the best central defender in the PL and will be highly sought after if not in January then next summer. I hope there is a minimum asking price somewhere between £40-50 million. So already the club will be in the process of lining up a long-term replacement.

 

BBC now helping Liverpool with their recruitment by telling them they need Les Reed!

 

All our player sales since the "meltdown" summer have been players in the last two years of their contracts.

We won't sell. Unless there's a release on a bid of "X" clause. Which we've never had before, AFAIK.

I wish Les Reed could buy us.

 

Les as DoF and Clod as head coach. It is a structure that works for us although has been seen to fail spectacularly with other clubs. If the day comes when Les leaves us suddenly, I fear we will be in trouble, but Les has everything under control in the meantime.

I think the fact that our DoF isn't coming up with wacky ideas himself over potential transfers, and that we use a recruitment system that scrutinises every statistic is a huge factor.

 

Only concern I have, is what's the succession planning for Les? Presume there is one, and that somebody else gets allowed access to the manager database at that point!

 

You've spotted Les's secret weapon. He cannot be replaced or assassinated...he takes it all with him.

 

That's the whole purpose. The "Black Box" will already have a list of possible replacements in mind when Les leaves.

 

There is no replacement for Les Reed. That's heresy

 

Honestly, I think that would be like me leaving Not606. Lots of people would be really upset and nervous about the future, but you would all muddle through somehow.

It sounds like the black box does all the work. Les' replacement could just be the guy in the St Bernard costume.

 

Yeah it sounds like the black box is the key now it's all set up. Just need someone to be trained up how to use it (which could be anyone)

 

Not me though. I'd bust it and have to pull the plug out and start again.

I wonder whether this story is intended to send a message to any potential new owners?

Les said in a previous interview that at any one time we have four or five people in line for any position in the club, including his.
