Carl Frampton faces Jamel Herring tonight in Caesar's Palace. No, not that one, the one in Dubai. Not sure about the rest of the bill: https://boxrec.com/en/event/826109 It's on Channel 5 starting from 10pm. The only UK event features Conor Benn, but it doesn't look great: https://boxrec.com/en/event/825665 It's on Sky.
The quality in the Frampton bill looks lacking, but it's also really light. Everything welterweight and down. The Benn bill's just ****.
Akhmadaliev giving Iwasa a hard time in Uzbekistan... oh and the ref's stopped it as I'm typing. Not sure about that one. Early stoppage as I'm trying to watch something interesting at half-time. Twat.
Why did Frampton take that fight ffs? Herring was way too tall for him, had a huge reach advantage and likely entered the ring about 10-14 lbs heavier than him. ****ing dumb, he never stood a chance.
He was done after the Warrington fight, realistically. Had a slow couple of years and beat a couple of nobodies, then took this step up as a last hurrah. Didn't work and now he's retired.
I don’t get the step up in weight tbh, especially to fight that guy who was 5” taller and had a 7” reach advantage. It was a suicide mission imo, maybe he’d already decided to retire and he knew he’d get done by this fella, but he hardly maximised the revenue potential of his last bout like, channel 5 ffs.
Nothing like a bout in Belfast in front of a packed stadium would have earned him, if he’d have waited a few months for his last hurrah. Just seems a very strange decision all round to me. Anyway, that’s him done.
