Just seen the podium and disappointed LeClerc didn't spray the champagne. He may be disappointed but the irony of looking petulant when Max is next to you ..... Not great sportsmanship.
He’s still a kid who has had two races go from under his nose this season. He did come back out later. He’ll learn, and he’s a good sort.
Finding it hard to have strong feelings about whether the decision was right. Looking at the replays I've changed my mind several times. Ultimately maybe the "Let them race" argument has merit here. It would be a shame to see a race as good as that have its result overturned. One thing I will say though is that the style of racing we saw the previous lap, where Max left space on the outside and they battled into the next corner, is a lot more enjoyable to watch for me.
Moving on from the incident. It's a pretty galling result for Ferrari. 0 wins from 3 poles, got beat by Honda on a power circuit and there probably isn't another track that suits them until Monza. Ultimately has to be put down to more strategy errors. Qualifying on softs was a mistake.
It's an interesting decision, given the precedent (Rosberg vs Hamilton Austria 2016 - Rosberg had the inside of the same corner and caused the collision, got a 10 second penalty) and the rules, which Verstappen has shown no respect to since he entered F1. He moves about in the braking area in defence and he leaves people no room around the outside when he overtakes. Those rules (leave the driver space on the outside, one defensive move only) were brought in as an artificial means of providing wheel-to-wheel action by giving the defending driver limited options. What this decision does is bend to the pressure to reform and rethink the trajectory F1 has been on. I know it's less safe, but I think it's good. The sport has become sanitised by the artificialness. The true racers amongst the grid will light up with this decision. It's a shame that it took so long for them to make a decision though.
Not straightening , turning. He managed to avoid Leclerc on the previous lap and didn’t overtake him The next lap he pushed him off. I feel it was a political decision not to penalise him.
Maybe those who think a penalty is due for Max/Chalres should look at Vettel crowding Norris earlier in the race. Wasn't even looked at, but a clear move to crowd a driver out. But we don't want penalties for every small thing. It's hard racing, isn't that what we want to see?
Yes, but he was berated from pretty much day one about lack of sportsmanship, sulking etc. So is pretty much the same.
Fair comment . Come back to me in 60 race starts , I think CLC will not be so " Childish " . Max will still be like his Dad ….
I think he has that arrogant, "I'm young and will live forever" attitude, which is bolstered I'm sure by everyone telling him he's brilliant since he was 5. There's definitely a hint of spoilt brat in there. Hamilton had a similar vibe in all honesty, but I'd say he's peaked over the last couple of years when he has matured with experience. Max is a future world champion, but he needs to mature a bit and find his way into the right car somehow.
