Beddy What led me to that conclusion was that on the small, brown coin, it looks like the bloke has curly hair and a beard to the extent that it reminded me of the Emperor Hadrian. I have no idea who is is supposed to be but the letters around the perimeter seems to be an abbreviation, which is another trait you find on Roman coins. Regarding the sizes, they do vary albeit there is actually a tendency for many pieces to be very small indeed. The bloke who sits next to me at St Mary's does metal detecting and has worked with the county museum in Salisbury. Most of this find consists of modern, milled coinage. I wish I knew more about this kind of stuff but it is quite specialist. There is a shop outside the British Museum which specializes in historic coins and some of the prices are mouthwatering. I would like to know about the people who lost these coins as well as finding out what these coins can tell us. All in all, we could do with a coin expert to give a definitive answer.
We managed to get tickets for one of the services in Wells Cathedral this evening, there were only about 100 people allowed in so we were very lucky. No singing allowed by the crowd but the choir's songs were, as always, breathtakingly beautiful.
Chilco I am not religious but I had been to the blessing of the crib at Winchester cathedral the last few years and been hugely impressed. The limited tickets available this year made it an impossibility this time around.
I have a video of my new friend in this photo, but don’t know how to get a video from my phone to the forum. He was feeding from my hand. So brave and so cute...
Leidschendam, the canal (Vliet) yesterday late afternoon close to our new place. Not the best of times to be moving given the weather, fortunate to have an overlap and plenty help from friends. Couldn't say no, the location superb. Off for a walk soon lots of layers, -6 rising to -3.
One of my musical friends just posted this. As she says, when it freezes in the Netherlands, people thaw:
Today marks my one year anniversary of working from home because of Covid. Really strange as I remember packing away my stuff and thinking that it would be a couple of months at the most. Really didn't realise back then how big this thing was going to be and how drastically it would change our worlds! I must say I really miss it. Sure there are positives of working from home, and negatives of the office but I'm really looking forward to being back. That said I also know that I'm a lucky one. My job has thankfully never been at threat, and I still get to see my workmates semi-regularly when I work out on beaches. Heres a photo I took whilst working on Monday evening at Southbourne. Hang in there everyone!
The Bargate Lions are due to be returned to their positions, today I believe, following restoration work that has returned them to their original colour.
They look good. What’s in the bowl? I've just had a delivery this week of Jamaican patties from the inlaws.
They are good, very popular. It's the bakwan mix in the bowl, similar bhaji. One of each makes up the package along with a couple of chilis to nibble whilst eating the contents.
