LMS Jubilee Class No. 5596 "Bahamas". No. 5596 "Bahamas" was built in 1935 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow. "She" was named Bahamas in 1936 after the Bahamas, which were then part of the British Empire. After nationalisation in 1948, Bahamas was renumbered by British Railways to 45596 and transferred to Edge Hill, Liverpool.

Ex-LMS 5XP 4-6-0 No 5597 'Barbados' is seen passing Perrin and Harrison's Sidings signal box on 20th May 1963.
The tall signal seen above the train was provided at this height because lineside structures or bends would have been obscuring any signal erected to the standard height.
However it would have been supplemented by a repeater - another arm much lower down - so that in very poor visibility such as fog it could be seen by the crew when slowly passing by.
The locomotive was allocated to 55A Holbeck shed in Leeds and was heading a fitted freight to Birmingham.
Built as LMS No 5597 by the North British Locomotive Company in January 1935, No 45597 remained in service until January 1965 when it was withdrawn from 55A Holbeck shed.

LMS 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 5597 'Barbados' stands light engine on the down avoiding line which ran through the train shed. Built by the North British Locomotive works in January 1935 and remained in service for thirty years being withdrawn in January 1965 from Holbeck shed for scrapping by Drapers Ltd of Hull in April 1965. Michael Byng writes 'this almost certainly a picture taken in wartime as the cabside window in front of the crew member is blacked out; secondly the shedplate carried appears to be a Midland Division one either 22A - Bristol LMS - Barrow), where the engine was shedded from 18th November 1939 until 2nd March 1940, when it was transferred to Leeds Holbeck -20A; as the engine was in works between 23rd October and 4th November 1939 for a heavy service and entered works again for a heavy general repair on 3rd July 1940, I date the picture during the period between works visits. Possibly it is on a "running-in" turn after the first shopping in November 1939'.

Less than a year old Jubilee 5612 (Jamaica) stands outside of Kentish Town shed on 13/7/35.
It will be almost 2 years before the loco receives its nameplates on 23/4/37.
Note that the loco is paired with a Fowler high, straight sided tender.

Steam Locomotive #5614 was built in the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy
Railroad’s West Burlington, IA, shops in 1937.
The CB&Q had bought eight Northerns from the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1930 designated Class O-5
(#5600-#5607). These hauled both freight and passenger
trains and the railroad was so pleased with them that, following some modifications of the design, it began building its own. From 1936 to 1940 the Burlington built twenty-eight of these Northern type (4-8-4) locomotives (#5608-#5635) designated Class O-5a. These were the last class of steam locomotive rostered on the Burlington.
