Somewhat poignant that the 22 we were left needed off that last over is the same number that CDG conceded in his second over, when he was thrust into needing to bowl towards the end. Our desperation to get a second wicket meant that we burnt out Overton and Mills far too early. So whereas Fire could finish off with all three of their seamers, we needed CDG and Briggs to keep Jordan company.
Somerset sneak a win by one run against Glamorgan in an absolute thriller at Taunton! A low-scoring game reduced to 37 overs each, it looked until the last few overs that Glamorgan would chase down 181 easily, but for an inspired bit of captaincy by Ben Green. First he brought Sonny Baker, the 19 year old fast bowler, back on, who promptly bowled Callum Taylor, then he kept himself on despite going for 14 in his previous over, and got Lucas Carey out. 20 year old left arm spinner Lewis Goldsworthy had to bowl the last over with only 7 needed, but held his nerve. What a nail biter!
That's a great run chase - and final over - by Gloucs. It prevents Durham from pulling well clear of 4th place in our group. With only the top three to qualify, and Essex highly likely to fill one of those three places, that really helps us.
Pleased that Mason gets his first game. But I wasn't expecting him to be the one to replace Lawrence! I'm not sure they need seven bowling options, plus Denly as a possible 8th.
And tbh, I've only just realised that Trent have done something similar by replacing Root with VDG. So now they too have seven bowling options, plus Short as a possible 8th. Very odd, when you've got Luke Wright available.
I'm not unhappy with Short scoring runs here. Assuming he's available for the QF I'd like him coming into that in good nick.
They had Samit down at no.8 against us just five days ago. Losing Root and Mullaney, and he's suddenly up at no.4 and producing that nothing innings. From an incredibly deep line-up, to basically no depth at all.
