Have the EFL got the balls to send Derby down? If it were the other way around, Wycombe would be dead meat. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57590681
It needed doing during the season. The EFL will be $h!t scared of Derby filing an appeal and winning. If they'd been relegated and had to be compensated and reinstated there would be carnage. Then Wycombe would want compensation for money spent on players thinking they'd be in the championship. EFL would have too much to lose.
As I understand it, the appeal process has been exhausted - Derby do not have the right to appeal the EFL final decision. If the EFL apply a points deduction immediately for the season just finished, Derby are down. If at all, I can see the usual EFL compromise solution to apply any points deduction the following season like they did for the Wendies.
From the released fixtures, if they stay up we're away to them the last game of the season on May 7th. If they've not been replaced by Wycombe for this season and in any danger of going down, I'm expecting snow.
The Snow Queens have been dodging the rules and ducking and diving for several years now.... The club is clearly a complete basket case with the way buyers keep doing runners when they get into the details. Time for the EFL to do them a favour and put them out of their misery and relegate them so they can start afresh. Won't happen though. I'm sure freak weather would prevent the news from getting through.
I think "may occur" is more likely. The EFL are hedging their bets as Direby will try anything to avoid relegation and the clock is ticking towards the season start. I see Wycombe could well sue Direby for megabucks if they don't replace Direby in the Championship. Also the Granny Sha££er will leave if they go down. Mind you I would have thought he was used to going down on tired, old things.
Being my simple self, it occurs to me that if an offence was committed in a given season, the punishment should apply to that season. That's how it should have been for the Wendies and how it should be for Derby. In reality, I think the alternative fixture list is designed to create the illusion of the EFL actually considering appropriate action whilst providing cover to kick the can down the road until August when it will be too late. If the Rooney Tunes get relegated, they'll have to play AFC Wimbledon. At the new PLOUGH LANE
The article also states that Wycombe may start the season in Division 1 until the outcome of the EFL decision. So how the hell would that work if Wycombe are promoted and Derby are relegated AFTER the season starts!
I reckon once the season starts, that's it. That means the EFL have got 6 weeks to come up with a definitive decision. Any points penalty which would have meant relegation for Derby will be have to be applied next season like the Wednesday debacle. I can't see any way you can promote/relegate two clubs between two divisions once the season is underway and results are in.
