You must be joking. It is yet another bloated balloon fest to sate the appetites of Europe's wealthiest clubs. Real Madrid are not that disappointed when coming second or third in La Liga, but not winning the CL is enshrined in their DNA. But it does nothing for me.
I think with most PL and Championship sides, our celebrations are when promotions are achieved, and once or twice a final is achieved. It would be great if things were more competitive. At least Manchester City and Leicester City have managed to ruffle the feathers of the mighty four who were winning everything in sight, a la tennis's men's top three.
Two wins before I'm in full England mode When is Kane supposed to be back? Not sure about taking him at all if he's rushed back. Central defence and midfield is where our big issues are of course (and why we won't win it) but I would hope we can make the quarter finals. With the semis taking us back to Wembley too that would give any quarter final an extra edge. And yeah we've been a bit unlucky with our group winners paired with the 'group of death'. Maybe we'll just have to finish 2nd again Winning the group would mean Dublin/Rome for last 16 and quarters I think while finishing 2nd means we'll go to Russia. No idea about 3rd place.
Just stop teams in Europe from playing in it, eases fixture congestion in the first part of the season and automatically makes the rest take it more seriously.
Forgot to say I'd play Pope in the upcoming friendlies with a view to taking him as number one over Pickford.
Seems funny to think that Dublin would probably be the safest place for England fans out of those three. Should be a very open tournament as I don't think anyone is at full strength these days. Maybe France, but that's about it.
It isn't those teams' fault really though. And what if Saints qualify for Europe? I wouldn't like it if that meant we were out of the League Cup for a season.
Yeah you'd have to have France as the favourites though I would personally never write off the Germans. Not really sure how good Italy are these days? Spain certainly aren't anyone to fear imo and Portugal will largely depend on what Ronaldo can do in a tough group. Don't think Croatia will be as strong as recent years either. Fancy Holland to have a good tournament and reach the at least semis.
I just think it's the best compromise on the fixture congestion unless you switch to an 18 team league. The bulk of the games are played in the first half of the season where teams playing 6 (12 for Wolves?) European matches. I wouldn't mind if we'd qualified by winning it...
