Afternoon all. Been busy today between the occasional showers. I didn't get there but Mme told me that there was a newcomer at the French course who has moved down here from Scotland. Seems as if he likes getting about a bit and has lived in various countries, both in Europe and South America. He seems to be someone who enjoys the people of the world and tries to learn to communicate. I wonder why the UK doesn't place the same value on language learning as other countries? I have my ideas.
I can't speak for rUK, but here in Scotland language learning follows the 1+2 approach - mother tongue plus two additional languages - and starts in P1. It's fairly flexible around the country as to what languages are taught and how they are taught - mainly meaning that we don't have to timetable x number of hours for each every week. In my last school, the mother tongue was Doric (strictly speaking not a language, but different enough to count) & was used for drama, music, poetry, creative writing; the additional language was French, which was used during regular routines - ordering lunch, register, daily weather, lining up/moving around the school etc; English was the timetabled language. When the approach was introduced, I was sceptical as to how successful it would be in lower primary, but the kids were exceptionally quick to pick the extra up.
I am currently supping a pre-prandial glass and I note from the bottle it has just been awarded a gold medal...
Morning all, grey with showers here, and forecast for all day. We have a yellow warning posted for strong winds, so maybe it is the same one that sits over Weston.
Morning all, still blowing well here and we had quite a lot of overnight rain. I have been watching a red squirrel hard at work collecting walnuts, then taking them to my neighbour's planters and digging them in alongside her flowers. It would no doubt help the animal if it had a better memory of where he put his winter store.
I like the Nest. It's a thread I can follow with pleasure. It's sad there are others I now find offensive enough to steer clear of.
