York is indeed a lovely place, and Yorkminster has to be one of the finest churches in the country. A lot was made of how close that was to destruction from fire as Notre- Dame was in Paris. The competition to design a new spire for Notre-Dame has produced seven alternatives. The one I prefer is from some Italian architects who have proposed one made out of Baccarat crystal. I wonder how much we should change old buildings, but the thoughts of the glass pyramids in front of the Louvre filled me with horror, but today I think they have added to it rather than take away the majesty of the buildings.
Good morning all. Today our portable wine cellar moves north towards the English coast. We have some great cheeses too which we bought from a farm in the Auvergne...
Morning all. Still dry, but the chances of some rain starting Saturday night are growing. There have been a number of fires breaking out in the areas around us, mainly in woodlands, although one elderly gent did watch his house go up in flames. Thankfully he was not injured. I have seen pictures of farmers out with their huge spraying rigs that they normally use for fertilizers, spraying the fields where they keep livestock with water. Safe journey with your precious cargo Yorkie. Have a good day whatever you must do.
Arrived at our overnight stop just north of Rennes.. No exaggeration we saw more traffic in one tenth of the Rennes peripherique, ring road, than we did in a whole month in Central France... Visiting family in Devon tomorrow.. Roscoff to Plymouth.. And back north of Leeds on Monday..
Morning, Sir Dave; morning, all. Sorry I missed that about your op midweek, Dave. Fingers crossed and hoping you’re not in too much current discomfort.
Morning all. Clear blue sky and a gusty breeze at present, but maximum temperature expected to be 30°C and cloud heading in from the west bringing some rain overnight. The fires that have ravaged so much of the countryside not that far away have been put out, although some places have seen them restart. I was sat on a Mediterranean beach one year watching the Canadair aircraft scooping up seawater, and dropping it onto the fires in the Esterel Massif. Yesterday three of the planes were deployed here, but had to land after each drop to be refilled with water as we are too far from the sea. Have a good day, and let's hope for a decent showing from our team.
Bet you feel better than me mate. Thankfully it has never happened but I reckon I know what being bummed feels like. 8 ****ing 0.
Good morning all from a warm and dry Weston-super-Mare! Have a good day and H, many happy returns of the day xxxx
Would like to say it is great to be back in the UK.. But my team just got hammered The boat could not Dock due to a stranded fishing vessel in Plymouth Harbour.. And it is grey and raining.. I hope these clouds have a silver lining...
Morning all. Completely overcast and at 9.00 am it started to rain. What a lovely sight! Nothing heavy, but light and steady. We will need days of this to get any moisture down below the top few centimetres of soil. Mr and Mrs Duck will be happy. They set up home on our village pond and raised a family of seven ducklings. As the days have passed the playground for the ducklings became smaller with only half of it being deep enough for paddling practice. Happy birthday to Hornette. Hope you have a good day.
Morning all. Very sore and tired as I walked a marathon last night finishing just after 2AM. It's always an emotional and inspirational event - people of all ages, creeds, colours, nationalities and shapes and sizes taking to the streets to remember people who have died of Cancer and to raise money for ongoing research. Nice to know there's some hope - and to add another medal to the collection Enjoy your Sunday one and all.
