Morning all. Sorry to read that Dave. What a pain it must be, in more ways than one. Hope they have you sorted without much trouble. Bright and sunny in rural France, with some high level hazy cloud about. The temperature is expected to climb to around the 30°C mark again today. We went to a larger garden centre yesterday and were very impressed with the arrangements. Hand sanitizers as you went in, all trolleys given a good spraying before you could touch one, and everyone, staff and customers wearing masks. It is becoming quite interesting to see what material masks have been fashioned out of. They are not the most comfortable things to wear on a warm day, but needs must for the time being. Have a good day whatever you are doing.
Morning all. Another very warm start to the day, and yesterday I did need to give some of my plants a drink. Despite my best efforts to improve the soil it still is very light and dries out quickly. The list of things that we need is getting longer and a shopping trip has now become necessary. It seems that although many people are enjoying getting a bit further from home now, shopping has become a pain that you only do when you have to. The weekend trip to a shopping centre has never been quite the same here as in England. A good long walk is what people prefer to do rather than wander around inside. At least when I do go to town there will not be a queue of cars trying to get into a McDonalds as we don't have one within 60 kms of here. Enjoy your day even if you must go to the supermarket.
Morning all. Quite a change in the weather as there is gentle rain falling. I don't mind as it will refill my water butts and give the plants a drink. Shopping trip yesterday showed up just how much we had used from our stock rather than visit the supermarkets more frequently. There is supposed to be a cheese mountain built up as people have not been to the shops so much, however it doesn't so far seem to have brought about a drop in prices. There has not been any shortages of anything really over the past weeks, although some of the usual brands have been replaced with different ones. With luck shopping is over for another week or two now. Have a good day whatever the weather.
Morning all. Clear blue sky again and already the greenhouse vent is wide open. Our drop of rain yesterday hopefully will have watered my plants well, but there is a downside as the grass is going mad again, meaning that I will have to cut a pathway along 250 metres of green lane. There is a large container also to be filled with compost and plants for my daughters wedding anniversary tomorrow. She has a large terrace that she is trying to bring some colour to with pots of summer flowers. Unfortunately her husband is still stuck in Switzerland, and their only contact for weeks now has been by video calls. I hope that you all have a good day whatever you are able to do.
Afternoon y'all. Found some lamb steaks in the supermarket today - "chuletas". It is ususual to get lamb cuts here. Sometimes I get a French rack from a fancy butchers or a full leg from the only guy who sells it in the market. Lamb is eaten here but in a style called "barbacoa" where it is cooked wapped in big savila type leaves and put over coals in the ground and cooked over hours with earth on top. Lamb is by far my favourite meat and have even made a mint sauce for these pieces of gold I found by good fortune today. Got a Chianti to help wash it down too. Have a good afternoon! Where's andy? Hope he is ok.
