The one-drop rule is a social and legal principle of racial classification that was historically prominent in the United States in the 20th century. Initially used by the Southern states to identify those deemed to be coloured as part of their segregation strategy. As with so many other negatives including the N-Word this has been taken up by The Community and is considered as belonging to them only. Most recent case to hit the headlines was Halle Berry who had a kid with a white man. She complained during the custody battle that even though the kid could pass for white it had to have exposure to its black roots because one drop of negro meant it was of dual heritage.
