But you know in advance what the priority is. So if you want to watch the reserves play Cardiff in January - then go right ahead

At least it looks like you agree with me that football clubs don't try to win every game that the club plays in.

Well guess you will have to wait for someone other than myself to reveal the answer.

Also if I had revealed the answer, then someone would have correctly stated that I was wrong <doh>

So you agree that football clubs don't try to win every game (though that's not saying that the players who actually play them don't give 100%)

So you think every football club should play its best available XI in every game ?
I'm guessing that you did agree with a club prioritizing a competition?

I have no problem treating the cups as development games
    They are utterly meaningless
What matters are Premiership games - nothing else.

    Why ?

    Seriously why ?
There's nothing to be gained (OK a bit of TV money) and a LOT to lose.

So the modern idea for supporting a club is to survive in the pl and never actually strive to win anything. Wow, football is really fcked up

    Me

I was at Wembley in 1972 to see Leeds win the centenary FA Cup 1-0 against Arsenal. And it meant the world to me - at the time, I saw winning the FA Cup as equal to winning the league

    Times have changed though

Sure, it would be nice to win some silverware but let's face it, it's not going to happen, and can seriously undermine our league performance
The FA Cup is like a mythical Greek Siren, promising glamour and glory but in reality probably just delivering adverse league performance.

    ???

    Striving to win what ?
The Premier League - sure we can. It's not going to happen though
The Cups ? Sure we can, but what price a cup if the consequence is a relegation dog fight

The top 4 clubs can battle it out to be English champions....the rest know which side their bread is buttered. "Success" is mid-table
Winning a cup + relegation is a big time failure.

Fair enough, I disagree with you, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I presume though if we do get to an F A Cup Final at any time within the next 10/30 years, you will be happy to give up your ticket to me, as obviously you won't be that bothered about seeing the game live, as it isnt a Premier League game :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Big news coming out and seems to be real. Drameh was offered an 18 month contract extension which would have taken him to 2026, he originally accepted it but on hearing Marsch’s plans has decided to reject it and it seems the club have pulled it off the table and Drameh will leave in January. So either Ayling is to be offered a new deal or the club are bringing in another RB?

So winning an FA cup should also mean relegation. I’m too old for these debates <whistle>

If we get to the FA Cup final then obviously it's on

But I remember winning the FA Cup in 1972, but losing to Wolves the week after 2-1 and so losing the league
Johnny Giles is often quoted as saying that Leeds were jaded for that game

Which would you choose, the FA Cup or the Premiership ?

Of course not, but it can mean doing harm to your league form, and more than a couple of clubs have got to the final and gone down.

I want us to win every game we can. If you mean winning the FA Cup or winning the Premier League, then I will say yes the Premier League.

If however you mean winning the F A Cup, or guaranteeing that we finish 17th in the Premier League, then I will say the F A Cup.

Then in 40 years time I can have a similar discussion as we are having now with someone from the younger generation, and be proud to say that I was there when we won the FA Cup in the (whatever year of the 21st century). Where as I dont think I would have the same bragging rights by saying I was there when we stayed up on the last day on the season 10 years running

I’m saying you’re probably right that they don’t, you seem okay with that, I’m saying that the purpose of every club should be to win every game they play. Some might think a weakened team will still be good enough to beat lower league opposition whereas you apparently are saying clubs put out teams to deliberately lose. If that’s really true then they should refund the fans that paid to go.

But your attention to detail is so much better than the half arsed attempts by the likes of me.

Losing to a welsh team is not an option.
    Play the best team available.
