Good Morning. It's Tuesday 19th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Try before you buy for Chilean ace

Italian media outlet La Nazione are claiming that Fiorentina midfielder Erick Pulgar is 'expendable' and a loan deal without any ties would not be out of the question.

The out of favour Chilean International, who can play defensive midfield, or defence, has only started 5 games for Cesare Prandelli's team this term. Since his arrival from Bologna, he has featured 48 times, and netted 7 times.

Leeds were keen to sign him last Summer, and apparently made a bid of 15m. 5m more than Fiorentina bought him for 18 months ago.

Leeds are not expecting any first team business in this transfer window; however a loan deal without any ties would be an attractive proposition for a well known Bielsa target.

Richard Keys - Leeds will never be better then 10th-14th under Bielsa

In his latest blog, Soccer pundit Richard Keys questions whether Bielsa will still be at Elland Road next season, not because the Argentine may walk away, but because they will never finish higher than 10-14th with El Loco in charge!

'At their best Leeds are a delight to watch. It must be fun and frustrating in equal measure to play in that side. It can’t be easy knowing that you’re going to have to score at least twice to win a game because you can’t keep a clean sheet'. 'Here- there are arguments for caution on occasions'.

'I’m reading the usual suggestions of ‘tiredness’, which always come at this time of their season'' 'Are Leeds running on empty'? 'Of course Karen Carney’s suggestion that ‘they wouldn’t have got up had it not been for Covid’ was clumsy - but I know the point she was making - and so did everybody else'. 'They would’ve got up. They were the best team in the Championship by miles last season'. 'What she really meant was that the Covid break allowed them to re-charge and she was right. There might not be the same chance this season'.

'I don’t believe Leeds will ever be better then 10th-14th playing the way they do'. 'That won’t be enough for an ambitious owner like Andrea Radrizzani'. 'It shouldn’t be enough for Leeds fans either'. 'So what happens in order for Leeds to take the next step? I wonder if Bielsa will be in charge at Elland Road next season?'

Leeds tipped to wrap up deal for McGurk

The Sun sports journalist Alan Nixon expects Leeds to complete the signing of Wigan youngster Sean McGurk, either this month, or worse case scenario in the Summer. This would be the second time Victor Orta has swooped across the Pennines to the DW Stadium in recent times. Last Summer the Whites captured Joe Gelhardt for a bargain price of under under 1m. The 18yo was immediately promoted to the under 23's where he has netted 5 times in 9 outings.

McGurk is a year younger than Gelhardt but possesses much the same extraordinary talent. His favoured position is attacking midfield, that's not to say he hasn't got an eye for goal.

He is also attracting interest north of the border too. Both Celtic and Rangers are monitoring the situation

Wigan are currently struggling on and off the pitch. Leeds have already had one bid turned down for him. Can they, and their administrators afford to turn down an increased offer?

    Morning all,

A loan deal with no ties, why not? Nothing to lose if Bielsa wants him.

Richard Keys- Another load of absolute codswallop of a post written by another has been trying to keep themselves relevant. As a team we have improved every season under Bielsa. That first season improvement alone will go down in legend.

The second season we improved enough to win the league by 10 points ( Thanks again Covid).

This season we have spent just short of £100 million to improve. Now we have been unlucky with injuries to the new guys so are yet to see how much they would have truly improved us. Meanwhile apart from a couple of poor results our championship squad has set the premier league alight to the point where we are everyone's favourite talking point. We are looking at relative safety this season.

Does Keys not think that if/when we stay up the squad would not be looking at improving the squad again? Imagine our squad next season with this season new signings fully fit and with a year under Bielsa under their belts and 2-3 more new signings.

Is anyone else really worried that we will not improve under Bielsa?

Richard Keys is a nobber and seems to think all soccer pundits know Bielsa is crap. How about all Leeds fans (hardest fans to please in world football) know most soccer pundits are thick, stupid, imbeciles with the odd nobber chucked in.

The Pulgar story has been around since the Summer because Bielsa knows him and actually wants him. We actually made an offer for him whereas we never made an offer for Rodrigo De Paul, that was them touting him. I have recently posted about Pulgar, even last week with some clips of him. This week the story above has been doing the rounds with a lot more detail and Fabrizio Romano is usually close to everything Italian and he says something could happen. Here is another version from todays Italian sports press:

“Leeds United are ready to table a fee of £22.25million to sign Fiorentina midfielder Erick Pulgar this month – which would make him the club’s third most-expensive transfer ever.

Pulgar, 27, has been strongly linked with a move to Leeds this season – following his stunning campaign with La Viola last season in which he had a hand in 15 goals, scoring seven and creating eight more.

He did that in 41 appearances, but this season he is yet to score or create a goal in 16 games – dropping out of the starting XI. Certainly, the 24-time Chile international has become more expendable than previously before.

    Morning all,

I’d be more than happy to take Pulgar on loan to see how he fits and get to know the system before buying in the summer, especially if it wasn’t an obligation to buy as then he’d be ready made for Bielsaball next season.

I think Richard Keys is talking a load of rubbish. We had a great defence in the championship and our defence was pretty consistent. This season we’ve had around 10 different combinations of back 4/5, a majority of the team are former championship players and we're still doing really well. I can’t see how if we keep improving personale and finally get an injury free defence how we can’t improve upon 10th in seasons to come.

If you young Wigan lad is good and they’re in financial trouble then we’ve got to take advantage and keep improving our youth set up.

Erick Pulgar is as good as Kalvin Phillips as a DM and as good if not better as Klich. Last season he was mainly used as an AM this season a new system and he has been on the bench mainly but when used he has been a DM which accounts for lack of goals and assists. Love poor journo’s

    Yet another Pulgar version:
“Regarding the English club, it’s claimed Bielsa’s side ‘would be ready to put up to €25m on the plate’ to sign Pulgar.

This report contradicts claims made by La Nazione on Monday as the newspaper explained Leeds are looking to take the South American on ‘dry loan’ deal.

Calciomercato explain the Serie A club’s outgoings ‘may not be concluded’ after allowing Patrick Cutrone, Pol Lirola and Alfred Duncan to leave the club.

This indicates Fiorentina are open to letting Pulgar follow the trio towards the exit door.”

I think the point about fatigue has been done to death throughout bielsa’s time at Leeds, in fact throughout his whole career.

Statistically it’s a hung vote. There are years where results have significantly fallen away for his sides and years where they haven’t.

Leeds players in bielsa’s first year admitted to feeling jaded, and they certain ly looked it. In contrast, results were good in the run up to lockdown last year... were performances as sharp? Well that’s harder to judge.

Our defensive record was good in the championship but we were up against championship attacks - we still gift wrapped opportunities, there just weren’t as many of them. I never felt we were great 'defensively'... how can you be when you have wingers as full backs and ball playing centre halves. We relied on dominating possession and pressing to win the ball back.

Keys has a point albeit an obvious one, but what it doesn't account for is the calibre of the players. How can you say we will always be mid table with Bielsa as a manager... if he had man city's playing staff instead of what is still a largely championship squad?

    Morning all...

I agree with milkyboy fatigue stories will never stop, this season we’ve played less games, we’re not in Europe like the top teams, it’s just rubbish.

I don’t like Richard Keys but I said long ago we’ll never finish in the top 8 under Bielsa. In my opinion he is too loyal to some not quite good enough and his training regime will put a few off joining.

I go back to Benrhama and Bielsa turning his back as he was not humble enough. Fine but the top talent needed to press for the top end of the table will often be like this, you need a modern coach like Pep or Klopp to handle all the personalities.

If Bielsa left now we’re simply nowhere near good enough to stay up playing the kind of football we played before he arrived. We need him for another season then we need to see where we are at but sadly he’ll never get us top 8. We’re years behind the top teams with investment, it would be unrealistic to expect us to be up there even two years from now

It's cobblers from Keys. Rads will never sack Bielsa, our goal this season is survival and then kick on under him next season.

Yorkshire Post now going with the Erick Pulgar story, therefore I will stick my neck out and say it wont happen. Yes it would be a great signing because we get a player who statistically speaking is better than Kalvin Phillips (Y.Post) and we get a player who can also play Klichs No8 role where last season Pulgar scored 7 and assisted 8 goals.

However in the Summer we found out about Robin Koch a couple of days before it got done, Cuisance was the day before, Rodrigo was done before we found out and so too was Llorente and Raphinah was sort heard about. But that says that every other story about signings were proved to be false and I suspect this will be the same

Darren Arnott has left Leeds Utd today to take over as Manager of a Norwegian club.Darren was the assistant U23 coach under Carlos Corberanand carried on in that role when Mark Jackson was promoted to U23 coach. Darren has assisted Bielsa on the first team bench and worked closely with Bielsa on planning and data.Arnott has had coaching jobs in the MLS and elsewhere overseas. A future top level coach, but is he a big loss for the Academy? Was he upset at been overlooked after Carlos left, because at the same time we also had Charlie Cresswell’s dad leave too (Richard Cresswell former Leeds player)

So will we promote from within again or will Bielsa sort it externally

I am sick and fed up of sports channels having black pundits and females IF they are there just to balance the numbers and its the politically correct thing to do. If they are there on merit, no problem at all.

Virtue signalling nothing less it's got to be seen as this now to satisfy the woke brigade that will descend on twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc if it isn't.
It is a fair bet they are over represented on t.v. already in programme's,news, films etc for the percentage that they make of the population....one last male commentators bastion is snooker, no women as yet but they are creeping into the ref's spots, are you allowed to still perceive snooker as a blokes game:emoticon-0127-lipss
