Bamford has more goals and more assists this year than Watkins.

(for you Jammy) his goals:xg is better too

Not sure Watkins would have been the answer, though that might depend on the question.

Paddy tops the 'big miss' charts with 17, watkins has 10. Watkins has also hit the woodwork more than anyone this season. But although Bamford misses the sitters, the fact his goals:xg is reasonable (and better than watkins) tells you that Bamford scores a number of goals that weren't easy chances... we've seen some crackers from him this season.

He's not a clinical finisher or a poacher. Think we probably all knew that <laugh>

....Watkins scored 9 more than Bamford last season.

The stats are in Bamfords favour this year but he is having the best season of his career. Watkins outshone him by a long way last season and isn't that far behind this season and is a couple of years younger.

Personally I feel there is more to come from Watkins whereas I am hoping Bamford can repeat his early season form for us at some point. If there was a straight swap deal I would snap Villa's hands off.

Saying that..... I'm not sure either will take us to top6.

Bamford is a good footballer but cannot take us into Europe. We should keep him though as he has improved immensely this season.
The bigger worry for me is midfield where we need that touch of class and pace. Dallas could then be left back and a right back can sooon replace Ayling.
We may have to keep the clown as backup keeper as i cant see anyone taking his wages on.
The thing is these u23s have to step up at some point or be sold.

that was the point. Bamford should have had more goals than Watkins last year. He couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo and was a disaster in front of goal. But this year he has performed better... So the idea that if we’d signed watkins we’d have have been better off is lacking in substance.

I’m sure Watkins is a bielsa type player, versatile started as a winger, works hard and scores goals

Just don’t think we can complain too much about paddy this season.
