And another thing. WFC seems to get the raw end of MOTD scheduling, unless we play 'a big club' (grrrh). Anyway I think the scheduling should be based on the sum of the league positions of the 2 clubs. I realise the top clubs are more likely to be favoured by virtue of being more successful (?) but it would take the sense of unfair obsequiousness towards them that annoys us all. If the position total for 2 matches was equal they could base it on (say) goals scored, or position of lower club. I wonder if Chelsea/ Arsenal was played today, would be on before them. I suspect not. But in my system we would. Any other views?
Not being able to get free-to-air tv, I don't get to watch it that much - but from what I have seen, I don't think they would dare tinker with the current methodology. The presenters/pundits seem to know everything there is to know about the big clubs, but very little about the others - meaning they would have to either work harder to impress, or make fools of themselves (more often).
Can't believe that Arsenal underestimated this match. Cologne are a well supported club with 50,000 in the stadium every week. Even in the German second division they were the 13th best supported club in Europe. It was their first European tie in 25 years and the distance from Cologne to London is not so great as to deter travelling fans. An allocation of 2,900 tickets was an insult. The German club had repeatedly asked for more and warned that they could not prevent ticketless fans travelling over such a short distance - how could they ? I cannot defend the 50 or so idiots who tried to storm the gates but this does not detract from the 20,000, or so, others who simply created a great atmosphere - the likes of which the Emirates had never seen. I can understand that standing in front of a stadium without a ticket for your clubs most important match in 25 years and knowing that there is space inside (because so many locals were not interested in the Europa League) can be a frustrating business. The vast majority coped with this frustration very well. In the event they lost 1-3 and Cologne fans were dispersed throughout the whole stadium so it is to their credit that there was no trouble. All the majority did was to teach the Emirates how to sing. If these had been Turkish or Russian fans, or the fans of Red Star Belgrade then there would have been a bloodbath (and Arsenal have Red Star coming up). I cannot believe how a club with so much Champions League experience messed up so much on this.
He should get back to his millionaires pad on the south coast and enjoy his life as a 70 year old. Maybe all his money is tied up with his dog I suppose.
Rooney banned from driving for 2 years - a costly mistake just for trying to cheat on his wife again.
Even though he apparently took a 50% pay cut when he joined Everton, he could easily afford to employ a chauffeur for the duration...
German club Wolfsburg have sacked Andries Jonker, a former Arsenal academy boss, and replaced him with former Mainz manager Martin Schmidt. The Dutchman became the first manager to be sacked in Germany's top flight, having secured only one win from four games in the Bundesliga this season. Just as bad over there then.
VFL Wolfsburg have sacked 3 managers since November last year Frenchie. Dieter Hecking, Valerian Ismael and now Andries Jonker - becoming a bit of a joke club. I can understand how Valerian managed to send the fans to sleep with a name like that !
