Got beaten in the air - BBC said it was an area St Johnstone would target. Got to feel for the Saints fans - 4 trips to the national stadium and haven't been able to go at all. I hope they can do it again next season.
Got badly beaten actually - it was almost as though he wasn't aware that the attacker was behind him. But apart from that, he has played quite well - seems to relish attacking on the overlap. St Johnstone on track for a rare cup double - even after a twice-saved penalty.
Yep, you're right Fez. In Germany the 3rd bottom club plays off against the 3rd highest club in the second division over 2 legs. Likely to be against either Greuther Fürth or Holstein Kiel (most likely the former of the 2). Werder Bremen and Schalke 04 go down automatically, and promotion is between Fürth, Kiel and VfL Bochum who I can't see messing it up now. The second division in Germany is becoming a very highly supported league now with HSV and St.Pauli there, together with Fortuna Düsseldorf and now Werder and Schalke (possibly Cologne as well) all well supported clubs whose fans stay loyal at times like this.
Sandhausen have it all to play for vs VfL Bochum. All three have tricky last fixtures if not positionally then certainly on current form. HSV have thrown it away over the past few weeks; St. Pauli have been off the pace for a while. I wouldn't like to bet on tomorrow's outcomes... certainly not given my second tier English predictions!
I see Dynamo Dresden and Hansa Rostock are coming back up, Ingoltstadt in the playoffs and 1860 missing out with Kaiserslautern languishing in lower mid table. All names if not necessarily big clubs.
The police in Hamburg will not be thrilled about those two coming up and visiting St. Pauli next year ! Both those clubs have numerous far right crowd sections.
Hoping that VfL Bochum make it ok. Fez. The Ruhr was where football all started in Germany (like the industrial north of England) and with Schalke 04 down, and clubs like MSV Duisburg languishing then Borussia Dortmund v Bochum will be the only derby left there.
I met a group of Schalke fans on holiday a couple of years ago, good bunch of lads in their late 30's - early 50's - a little boisterous but didn't overdo it if you know what I mean?! Managed to talk a bit of football between my formal, rather than conversational, and not that good German, and their even worse English. Hard work but where there's a will there's a way, we made ourselves just about understood. All five had Schalke towels!
Well, we now know that the play off will be FC Köln against Holstein Kiel - they messed up at home to Darmstadt and may be a bit on a low going into the match. Greuther Fürth did well to win with only 10 men against Fortuna Düsseldorf. The north really is messing up big time with Hamburg (Germany's second biggest city) without a club in the 1 Bundesliga and Werder Bremen also going down - the hope up there was that Kiel would keep the flag flying but this has wobbled a bit.
Chelsea and Liverpool made the top 4 then. Former helped by Spurs winning at Leicester. Bet they loved that!
A 42 year old comes on and starts his team's comeback by scoring - you couldn't make it up. What's odder is that he looks closer to 52...
Gareth Southgate named a provisional squad for the Euros so a few will miss out but mainly seemed to be the core squad plus Under 21 players tbh. Guess he is covering for injuries in this week's European finals as it wouldn't be England without an injury scare or two.
