As I pointed out, he has "shown up" in plenty of different conditions. Whether that was backing up on a harsh Tuesday night after playing Saturday, or playing 24 hours after getting back in the country, he showed up and scored.
I really couldn't care less what day of the week it is, he just doesn't turn up often enough. Last season it was one game at the KC against Bournemouth. The rest of the season he was out half the time with convenient Folan-style 'muscle' injuries. Silva sat him on the bench half the time because he didn't offer as much as Niasse. In his first season it was one game at the KC against Everton, we thought he'd finally come good but then next game away at WBA he went off with a wimpy injury (cold day you see, and their defenders are big and scarey) and did **** all for the rest of the season. Overall he had a good year in 15/16 yes, but it helped that our ridiculously overpowered Championship team were able to give him so many chances (weren't his first 5-6 goals all from within the 6 yard box?) and he went missing far too often for whole games at a time.
The frustrating thing about Hernandez is he wasn't bought for this level , and the 2 chances he has had to perform at that level he has been **** , and hopefully he will be good again at this level , but if he wasn't so **** at his required level , he wouldn't need to be good at this level ... I have said level a lot.
I completely agree. I know now £10m isn't seen as a big signing with the way values have shot up, but back when we signed Abel it was a huge fee, especially to a club like us.
It was a Brucey punt. If you look at Hernandez's career most of his goals have come in the second tier (Serie B and Championship) I assume he'll be in his last year of his contract now so the club need to decide very soon whether they let him leave for a decent fee or offer him a new contract, otherwise there's a chance he'll go for free next summer.
I think it'll be interesting to see how many he scores this season. If the team struggles to create compared to last time, I think he'll get about half as many.
I'm bookmarking this post for late October when 'gunman' Abel rampages into double figures for the season.
Yes, we get it PLT, you don't like/appreciate him. I personally (I'm not saying I'm right), but my opinion is, you're talking pants. There was a marked difference when Hernandez was on the pitch, and I can pull the stats from somewhere, we scored more points with him on the pitch last season. He ran, he harried, he played some amazing balls and quite a few moves started with him from defence. But it's a matter of opinion really isn't it, everyone's different.
We hardly created last time in the championship. We were absolutely ****ing woeful for 95% of the season.
So it's gunna cost me £45 to listen to city games this year. Straight into ehabs pocket. Anyone fancy stating up a radio stream for match days?
