his is just racing' Sergio Perez, who started on pole position but finished fourth: "This is just racing. Especially in this place we knew we could be in that situation. Things were looking really good but unfortunately Latifi put it in the wall at the wrong time for me. "It is racing, it will come for me." Perez was easily holding off the Ferrari of Charles before the safety car. I know the safety car came at the wrong time but after the restart both Charles and Max left Sainz well behind, so I’m not sure why Perez didn’t at least get past Sainz before the end.
He's going to have to dig really bloody deep to live with them. Damn I wish Hamilton was in this fight too right now. This could be absolutely epic!
It was lousy luck... And imagine he just didn't have the same grip/confidence on the harder tyre. Without the safety car, third may have been his best finish.
What I liked more than Chaz outsmarting Max (initially) on the DRS stuff, was the way he outsmarted him (again) at the safety car restart. Max was doing his usual aggressive moves getting alongside him, so Charles just gently edged him over onto the marbles before putting his foot down.
There was some smart racing between them! Both made that a great race. What we have learned though, imo... We still need more changes before we can kiss goodbye to DRS.
I spotted that too, great calm thinking in such a moment of pressure. Seems like Charles remembers all Max's tricks but as normal Max didn't learn or consider he needed to remember how Charles drives!
I reckon le clerc and ferrari will win easily next time out due to better traction out of slower coners and better downforce. Verstappen can enjoy this one and arrogantly strut about
Don't get the hate of this track? Alot worse tracks on the calendar then here, Australia always produces poor races for a start and Monaco is cack to unless its raining.
Monaco represents the glamour of grand prix racing's early days. It's also a supreme challenge for drivers, so winning there really means something. Sadly, it's not much of an event for spectators. Whether that makes it a non-event is moot.
Was verstappen's restart tactics discussed here during or after race? I don't think it's entirely wise personally. If I were le clerc I would think about pushing verstappen really wide or virtually stopping just to see what he does next. I felt as itvwas all verstappen managed to do was dirty his tyres, lose any chance of good slip stream and have cold tyres
I always wonder if someone else had started doing SC restarts lined up almost next to the leader before Max started doing it, would the stewards have decided it was ok. Rule states The safety car shall be used at least until the leader is behind it and all remaining cars are lined up behind him The cars on the lead lap must always stay on the racing line unless deviating from it is unavoidable.
Seems like it's more of an unsettling your opponent tactic than anything that may give you a significant advantage.Getting on the dirty stuff seems like it would negate any advantage at the restart, unless the car ahead gets it wrong.
They do it in other racing series? I think they should have a minimum speed though that they should keep above. Cars bolting and halting is going to cause another accident soon like we've already seen.
It's most likely verstappen wants to prevent le clerc from having a good exit out of the corner and so be vulnerable at the end of the next straight. It does seem that he is clearly breaking the rules and regs
